Redskins at Bucs: Game of the Year so far?
Fox TV | 11/13/05 | me

Posted on 11/13/2005 4:24:01 PM PST by Diddle E. Squat

Bucs win 36-35 at home? TD's trade all 2nd half, bouncing back and forth between a tie and a Redskins lead. Redskins block the tying kick with 58 seconds left, but are called offsides. Bucs then go for two, is ruled a touchdown (though it appears pretty clear from replays that he was down and then moved the ball across, but not clear enough to overturn the initial call of touchdown.) Still 58 seconds left.

What a great game!

on my TV I saw his elbow hit the ground at the 6 inch line with the ball even further away

Right, and the Redskin kickoff return for touchdown was flawless on your tv too.

I didn't see the Redskin TD so I don't know if it was "flawless", I was watching Packers beat Atlanta at that time.

First of all, I could care less for either team, ...

How much less could you care, a little or a lot?

Actually, a win by the Cowboys will tie for 1st.

Also, the Giants 24-23 comeback win over the Broncos was a great game.

Oh, and Coughlin went for two today to tie it 21-21 in the Giants/Vikings game. Although the defense went soft on the last drive.

But the crucial call looked wrong to me: TB didn't get in the end-zone.

Looked wrong to you and me, but the ref makes the final call, and the call stood.

Nice. How do you get six points when you're trying for two?

Easy. 6 points for a touchdown (after "Booth Review"), 2 more for a 2-point conversion after the Deadskins went offsides during a field goal attempt (repeated 4th down). Bucs needed 7 to tie, and 8 to take the lead. Deadskins could have forced an OT, but they didn't.

And my Dogs lost to Auburn in the last second.

Not a good weekend for wins, but two good games nonetheless.

It was obvious the Bucs did not win. The refs need to be fired. This was a giant embarrassment for the NFL.

LOL!! It's only a game!

This was possibly the best game all day. The local FOX affiliate dumped out of the Denver game and went with the Bucs/Deadskins game. Tomorrow the 'Boys will drive the stake into the Iggles.

2 more for a 2-point conversion

That's just the point - the original statement was the conversion attempt was ruled a touchdown.

You can't get there from here.

It was almost impossible to pass or field punts. Snaps to the holders were even blown off course by the wind. Whole game was like that and it was unpredictable in my face in the South end zone than a minute later on my back. Paper was whipping across the field in no time. When the wind would hit a kick against it the ball would almost stop in mid air. Amazing day.

I also was proud of Dick Vermiel for going for the win last week against the Raiders. It was a gutsy call to win or lose on one play. (I used to be a Raider fan, but now I just want to see a good game every week.)

And I was disappointed in the TV announcers. As the Chiefs came to the line with only a few seconds left in regulation play, CBS announcer Randy Cross kept saying that the Chiefs must be trying for one quick sideline pass before attempting a field goal. He repeated this as they snapped the ball. It never occurred to him that Vermiel was going for the win. The CBS announcers missed a great chance tell the viewers that we were about to witness a dramatic, game-ending play.

Sometimes I just shake my head at the poor quality of some of the TV announcers. Did you watch last night's game between the Browns and Steelers on ESPN? During one of their sideline human-interest shots, Suzie Kolber tried to explain the intense rivalry between the two teams. She said that when quarterback Trent Dilfer came to Cleveland, they told him no matter what else he did, he had to beat the Browns. No, Suzie, he is playing for the BROWNS; they want him to beat the STEELERS.

I replayed her comment twice to make sure I heard it right.
