Limbaugh's Adopt a Soldier Misguided (Vanity)

Posted on 11/10/2005 11:40:07 AM PST by faithincowboys

I am a fan of Limbaugh's but I think the soldiers don't need a 24/7 subscription. I think Limbaugh would've been a real mensch if he had just endorsed a standard Adopt- A - Soldier program that provided them with the normal TLC-- food, shaving kits, etc. He didn't have to get his beak wet... I would've gladly participated in a standard program, the subscription thing is a missed opportunity that risks appearing self interested. I don't care if a bonehead from Rio Linda gave him the idea.

Actually not. Those were nice but news that was not filtered was what I wanted. I had a shortwave and listened to Radio Moscow and it was not much different than CBS.

I have to agree.
Rush has the ability to give away membership to anyone serving in the military if he wants. there is no justification for making others pay Limbaugh for their membership. If he wants listeners and 24/7 members to reach into their pockets for the soldiers, it would be money better spent on care packages and such, not pay-site access (plus most soldiers would probably want a different kind of pay-site access...)

These guys don't get a lot of internet access time anyways.
They'd rather receive something tangible from back home.

I think it is a good idea if they can overcome (and they can, I did) the technical problems. This allows the troops to listen to all 3 hours. You sure are negative about Rush. Are you a troll?

Don't mean to make you mad, but you sound like a liberal.

You know best what is good for them.

How about Rush puts up a check box. Cookies and skivvies or the Limbaugh letter and we'll see which is more popular with the military.

"He can't give away bandwidth for free....and he's giving a discount."

LOL - Isn't that like saying that AOL can't afford to send out free disks ?

Isn't it amazing that Rush's "discount" brings the cost down uder $50, which is just coincidentally the amount that can be gifted to an individual federal employee ? Hhmmmmm ?

If you don't think that the troops have food and shaving kits galore then you are misinformed.

Like with everything in life, some have more than others.

Let Rush give a gift HE wants to give.

If you want to give food and shaving kits, drive on.

Oh yes, faith loves to put her talents for fiction writing on display.

Are you at it again, Faith?

Do you write for CNN by any chance?

Not that I want to use the Lawn and Garden department at the PX at Victory South as the benchmark for all PX's.

You mean the giant "Wal-Mart" PX on Camp Liberty? By the snooty coffee place, Church's Fried Chicken and Burger King and all those specialty shops?

I remember when there wasn't so much as a chow hall on that base. Now it's Main Street, USA.

So you got mud in your boots going down IED alley do you really need a 24-7 subscription of Limbaugh talking about Harry Reid.. no you need calling cards, cookies, salty peanuts, a deck of cards and powder for your feet.

Yes, you've just perfectly described all 150K troops in theater. [yawn]

Plus, the feedback I'm getting is that most of the well-intentioned calling cards are worthless.

no you need calling cards,PX got'em, and with MWR compters there's email and chat and voice links

cookies,PX got'em in many styles and flavors

salty peanuts,PX Got'em in many styles and containers

a deck of cards,Not only does the PX have'em, but the military issues them as well

and powder for your feet.

Lord knows that the PX and aid stations have that!

What the PX doesn't have is Rush 24/7.

And yeah, I've been down more than one road called RPG Alley and I didn't really have access to anything more than what the troops had, often less.

PX got'em,

Yep. And if they don't have your favorite brands, drugstore.com and netgrocer.com can get it to you in about ten days.

EE, I had almost forgotten about how we got lost on Victory....LOL. Now I remember well.

We call it "Camp So Uptight You Can't Pull a Needle Out of its A$$ With a Tractor" these days. One of the camp managers came up with that one, I believe.

It is amazing how quickly it goes from fun to fearful.

Too many guys got self important and abused their power to create little kingdoms.

Cross the invisible line and get sent home.

Yep. Camp Taji, for example went from being called "The Happy Place" to being called "Camp Fear" due to some bureaucratic power zealots coming in and taking over after a great group of people built that camp.

One saying I throw around when it's called for is, "We need less ego, more teamwork." Some people actually listen to that one.
