Mine came from a dream too. I drempt about being in space. The ship was falling apart all around me as it was being pounded during a space battle with the planet below being carpet nuked from orbit (the reason for the fighting was to put a stop to that). In it I got sucked out into space at the end of the dream. Scary, but it inspired me to write a story. The Marines and mechs were not part of the dream though. I got that idea because I have played many mecha games.
Sorry to hear that. Whoever made fun of it does not know what they are missing.
No your not imposing :)
Good afternoon.
Hi Paul.
I plan on being a book writer myself some day, but I'm such a procrastinator.
No you do not deserve to be put into a padded room.
The main reason Brenda does not want me around her, is because of my nervous/sinus problem, that I have had since a kid. It manifests itself, in my coughing, sometimes pretty hard, and sometimes feeling like I am going to be sick. But, it passes quickly, in under a minute, or so. This has been a problem, for MANY people I know, and especially women, they just don't want to deal with it. (IIRC, Kim did NOT mind, but then, in order to even work at that job, I took about 3 rolaids a day, to suppress my nervous stomach, and is was not that bad. Still It did happen sometimes, and I am pretty sure she knew about it, but did not let it bother her. Not to mention, my nerves felt at peace around her, anyway.)
Dang. I am sorry to hear that. I sometimes get a random cough here. No sickness but it just pops up every once in awhile. But you should remind Brenda not to judge a book by its over (in this case not to judge you just because you get sick).
But anyway, Brenda is embarrassed by me, when I start coughing, and so, I go to the bathroom, or out doors to do it, so it will not bother her. THIS seems to embarrass her, too. Plus, my nerves are at their WORST around her, and I am always feeling queasy just being around her, so my nervous attacks happen quite a bit around her.
You cannot help it. She needs to get her act together. Its not your fault you cough.
Last week,I had a couple of incidents, and it was obvious Brenda had been offended. After the second time I came back, Brenda started on me, about how I made it hard for her to eat, and such. I got upset, and walked out. During my absence, she told my sister I was making her sick, and that I would never last long on a date(true), and she has also told her, many times, no woman would have me, I talk about stupid things, I am a boring person, and so on. All of this hurts me.
I know how you feel. I feel the exact same way. I feel I am pretty much doomed too. Somone will come along for you. I hope somone is out there for all uf os who are lonely.
Now, as for little Mrs. Princess:: is she perfect? NO!! She has a REAL anexoric problem, and will NOT allow herself, to gain just a bit of weight, to be healthy. She is also a VERY negative person, always seeing the worst side of AYTHING. She ran her husband off, over 6 years ago, and is now sad she did.
You should remind her that you never act the way toward her as she does to you.
Good afternoon.
I've given this lecture to Rca before, but here are some sobering statistics about book writing:
There are more than 50,000 books published each year. Only 3,500 are fiction novels. And of those, cheap paperback romance make up a whopping 1/3 (such novels are short-lived and poor paying).
Of the 3,500 novels published each year, 120 are first-time writers. And 3 out of 4 of those will not earn back $10,000 for the writer.
If you want to make it in book writing, it is almost a necessity: you HAVE to start with non fiction. Name recognition is not important: the book industry is dominated by essentially ordinary people who had a good idea for a NF book.
You may not be interested in money, but unfortunately, the publishing companies are. Your book has to be marketable: it costs a lot of money to publish a book, and they have to know for sure that the book will make them a profit. To be a successful writer, I'm afraid you have to have a business mind as well.
I had this story planned for a long time. Onlt began writing it this year. I know what it is like. Even my own parents deleted a copy of the work-in-progress I sent them and they did not even read it.
I honestly do not really care about money or material wealth. Sure enough money to survive but I never desired wealth.
Hehe I take great pride in knowing that leftists will hate mine :) Yours sounds VERY cool :) Mine is openly pro-Military, pro-gun, pro-freedom. The Colonial Federation (the good guys) are infact a US-Israel military alliance (hehe).
I know what its like. I have those days where I should write but end up relaxing lol.
I simply do not know HOW to do non-fiction. Or where to begin.
No contest for me. Completely out of love for sci-fi, storytelling. I am almost 30% complete. To far to quit even if I wanted to lol.
Now, I'm not trying to crush anyone's dreams here, or tell them they're no good, they'll never make it, etc. I'm trying to be realistic, and I'm trying to give advice from what I know on how best to achieve the dream.
Scripts are a different matter from books, so I will say from my learnings that entering contests actually is a great way to get recognition if you want to make it in script writing.
The reason that the fiction novel world is so meager is simply that people don't NEED it. People love to read books by Stephen King, John Grissam, etc...but they don't NEED them. They need...or at least think they need...non fiction. How-to books, self-help, etc.
I'm also not saying to give up fiction. I'm saying that the best way to approach the matter is to start "from the bottom" in non fiction, write, publish, and after years of work and recognition, slowly ease your way into fiction. Like any other industry, it's tough. It takes years of hard work, and, like it or not, you've got to start on the bottom and work your way up.
Add to that I need to do stuff that has not been done or is at least very rarely done. That is the main thing that makes me 'move.'
Are there any contests for novels with 200,000 or more words? I know National Novel Writing Month has one for 50,000 but they only give you a month to write and 50,000 words is just too short for my aims (for me, the longer a story is, the better) and it took me four months to get to 120 pages.
Thanks :)
