I've been around but just reading news and not posting much. And I'm working on a cold, scratchy tickly throat and achy ears.

I'm doing pretty well, right now. Getting ready to go to Vegas for Christmas, and when we (Hobbes and I) get back, we will have a new "brother" for her. I told her, but I don't think she understands, yet...;o]

NnB, the Phoenician texts yielded no useful information about their Nav magic or devices as yet. They apparently viewed such as a State secret, thus writing of them seems to have been strictly forbidden. But there are malcontents, Free Staters and gossips in all cultures. I'll keep looking.

 

The Phoenicians were, as you know, also master of commerce in the Ancient World. Their writings have provided some very useful things. A couple of their spells, a little time, and we should be able to afford your construction/engineering/enhancement requests easily, without impinging His Majesty's Weaponry and Entertainment budgets at all. I'll have Tax-chick and tuliptree check my numbers, but it looks like you'll have all you need.

 

The real find was in the Anasazi records. Their reputation for genius in the transport and storage of potable water is well deserved. I will be able to create cisterns that will hold our usable water outside the castle, in liquid state, hovering along with us during our journey. That should free up about 2/3 of the storage volume for your favorite coolant. Or mine. *wink*

Coarse and rough is highly sought, in some contexts, but in furs, silky is best.

It's been back & forth across 0C. Frost on the trees, roofs, and roads at times. But not quite cold enough to set us up for snow. We got a little precip this evening, but it looks like a nasty run of Yellow Face for the week.

Looking forward to time off, and getting back to some projects. Discovered today that the goodwife might be able to get internet access through her phone (40 kpbs instead of 26 kbps dialup) so that's another project. As she has not signed for the plan I have, if what I read is right, she'll only have web -- but it's free.

Got a PCMCIA card with USB ports, so I am able to get back on with my phone AND use a mouse again (I dislike touchpads, but accidentally blew out the USB ports with statis electricity a couple weeks ago).

And where, pray, tell, would you like me to lead you? The castle is quite large and the moat alone would take at least a day to float around.

The lower levels are "interesting" but one is cautioned not to go there without an escort of some kind...Darks usually keeps the zombies in line with threats of dust bunny retribution, but we are not always sure what lurks there.

And Dead Corpse, of course, has a smithy "down there" but only he and NnBob are sure of what he is doing.

Otherwise, the kitchens and bars are open 24/7 as is the gym, and since I've already explained the observatory, you should be pretty well informed about everything.

Regarding the Phoenician navigational expertise, surface navigation will not be of benefit to us. I am interested in their techniques because they showed an unparalleled understanding of the mechanics of the world.

However, something akin to an orrery might actually be useful, if for nothing other than giving lessons in celestial navigation.

I do not expect that water will be a problem for us. Our habitat will have a regularly scheduled rainfall early every morning as stored condensation from the dome enclosure is released for the grasses, trees, and small streams.

Not at all. Cut into the living rock, they are highly prized amongst scholars of my ilk.

The lower levels, we'll leave to Darks for the evening. He works best, and is most comfortable, on the Far Side of Normal. Whatever lurks there will receive its Justice from Darks, for good or ill.

I visited DC and NnB's works once. The expense and danger of it made my beard fall out (temporarily, of course)

On chilly nights, no one but the most hardy come to the observatory. That usually means I am by myself with my stars, my wine and my thoughts...

(Er...if I may be so bold, kind sir...why would the door need a lock?... To keep someone out? Or keep someone IN?)
