Comedy is job one (Office Space Thread)
Newsday ^ | 10/31/05 | Gene Seymour

'Office Space" opened in theaters in February 1999 and pulled in roughly $4.2 million in its first weekend. By May of that year, its total theatrical gross had crawled to about $10.8 million. For perspective's sake, consider that two weekends ago, "The Fog" opened - opened, do you hear - with $14.2 million.

Of course, any movie tempts lackluster receipts when it opens in the dead of winter with no big-name stars except Jennifer Aniston - regarded back then as a small-screen fixture, with no Brad Pitt in her immediate vicinity. But I, at least, expected better initial results. When reviewing "Office Space" for this newspaper, I figured that there were so many people disgusted with their jobs (or, at least, who weren't too far removed from jobs they hated) that a big, quick, box-office score was inevitable.

I was wrong. But in the long term, I wasn't.

I had no idea she was that hot.

Oh yes, young Jane Seymour had a major impact on my 12-year-old mind when Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger came out in 1977. That was the first movie I ever saw in the theater more than once, and it certainly wasn't because Patrick Wayne had even a tenth of his father's charisma:

She was absolutely the best in the 70's - and she still looked pretty darn good this summer in "Wedding Crashers":

Check her out in a movie, with Christopher Reeve, called "Somewhere in Time". Pretty good movie in which she plays a stage actress. In one scene she does an ad-libbed speech from the stage directed towards Reeve that will make your head explode.

It made mine explode anyway.

Well, Wiki has some small redeeming quality then. Still ... if they would have used TPS reports to envicerate and immolate in its own copious grease the standards ISO 900-whatever we'd might all be productive again.

This scene had me in tears:

Peter: That's it? If you had a Million Dollars you'd do two chicks at the same time?

Lawrence: Damn straight. Always wanted to do that man, and think if I were a millionaire I could hook that up to, cause chicks dig a dude with money.

Peter: Well not all chicks.

Lawrence: Well the type of chicks that would double up on dude like me do.

Peter: good point.

I love Band of Brothers office space. I have no problem with the Vat 69 Ron and the TPS Report Ron.

Found this thread while looking for the title of the film... I has mistakenly referred to it as "The Office", when it's "Office Space"...

I don't know why I find that dork with the red stapler so funny...
