DENVER (AP) -- The puck went in. The music started up. The Avalanche went crazy. And then the booing began.
The Vancouver Canucks thought the bedlam caused by an early Colorado goal Thursday night would offer the perfect moment to sneak Todd Bertuzzi into the game for the first time.
But there was no way Avalanche fans were going to let Bertuzzi's first appearance on the ice slip by unnoticed. They had been waiting a long time to let their new Public Enemy No. 1 know exactly how they feel.
The Avalanche beat the Canucks 6-2, but the game will be remembered mostly as the night Bertuzzi played his first game in Denver since breaking Avalanche forward Steve Moore's neck.

The length of that suspension was very misleading. The suspension probably would have lasted through all of last season, but last season was cancelled due to the NHL labor dispute.
Derek Staudt, 19, of Arvada, yells at Todd Bertuzzi during the Canucks' skate-around Thursday night at the Pepsi Center. The Canucks were playing in Denver for the first time since Bertuzzi injured former Avs player Steve Moore in a game on March 8, 2004, in Vancouver, British Columbia.
