Can we agree?: Shep Smith is preening ignoramus.
Smith just concluded an interview of Juan Williams by offering up the following pet theory:
"When President Bush nominated Miers, he did so with a big wink and let conservatives know she was 'one of us.' But even though conservatives knew that, they rejected her, because she was not sufficiently in-your-face as a pick, and they wanted to poke liberals in the eye with a nominee."
Has Smith been following the debate that has raged in conservative circles over Miers? Is he aware of the serious doubts that arose as to the bona fides of her conservatism? Did he read her speech that became public yesterday in which she expressed support for "self-determination" on abortion?
For Smith to suggest that conservatives rejected Miers despite being confident of her conservatism just because they wanted to inflict more pain on liberals with a more 'offensive' nominee is idiocy parading as theory.
Smith's "queerness" is getting the best of him.
Shep- try sticking to REPORTING the FACTS. You're apparently ill-equipped to become a pundit.
Sure that isn't what he wears for a night out to the piano bars in the village? (He lives in the village you know)

FWIW, when I posted this thread I had not read yesterday's item alleging that Shep is gay. So by definition, I did not have that in mind at all when posting.
Obviously people can post any comments they want, within FR guidelines, but I'm not sure I see the correlation between Smith's possible homosexuality and the idiocy of the theory he offered here.

This debacle will be as bad for conservatives as letting Pat Buchanan grab control of the GOP 1992 Convention. Yes, that fire and brimstone was great rhetoric, but all it got conservatives was 8 years of Clinton. Conservatives have no idea how badly they have hurt the conservative cause. Look for a much more moderate to liberal nominee.
