Correction: It is only likely to exterminate North American life,

OK, the end of intelligent life on Planet Earth (because it would take out the denizens of FR).

But everything I have read says it is probably the end of everything. Last time it blew BIG it took out the dinosaurs (IIRC).

IT is correct - the dinosaurs had serious problems (a global extinction event) ~65million years ago as a result of the KT meteoric impact in what is now the Yuccatan

I think you'll find that your time scale is off by about a thousand.

Yellowstone blew in the last hundred thousand years, while the dinosaurs quit romping around sixty-five million years ago, presumably (with good evidence), because of the chicxulub meteor.
