October 25, 2005, Tuesday

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

MALLEABLE

Adjective:
Pronunciation: mal/ee/a/bal
Etymology: Middle Earth

1) Capable of being extended or shaped by beating with a hammer or by the pressure of rollers
2) Adaptable, pliable.

SYN: plastic, pliant, ductile.

Apparently the coastline is getting absolutely HAMMERED from south of me all the way up into central Delaware and they are calling for coastal flooding until 6pm.

Fortunately for me, our near deadcenter location between the ocean and the bay is among the highest elevations in the county.

"She said I was very malleable and compliant, but who wouldn't listen to a woman who was carrying a chainsaw in the house?"

The idea that the Constitution is a malleable living document, subject to the massaging of the Supreme Court, is the only hope for the liberals to force their agenda on the rest of us after the voters repeatedly reject it. I got sidetracked on the Staged corn-holing prompted the Lawrence Case thread this morning.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. None of us are perfect, but if you are in basic agreement with the most important things in life, hey, you've got a match.

This is my favorite: Lie #6: Coincidences are a sign from God.

Unfortunately, I don't believe in coincidences. Things happen for a reason, good and bad.

Enough from me. A++++ for you, Countyline. And thanks for bringing the article in!

The House Republican Caucus had a significant portion of Representatives with ideologically malleable Congresspeople until Tom "The Hammer" Delay beat them into shape. It is a pity both sitting US Senator from Texas are Republicans, since Delay's leadership skills are even more desperately needed in the US Senate Caucus which is composed of even more malleable elements.

Thank goodness for you!

I heard last night on one of the cable channels that this can be a ten-year thing. I hope not, but this is Year Two.

West Virginia is getting snow!

Snow in the mountains of WV is not really all that unusual at this time of the year.

ONLY year 2 of a 10 year cycle - sheesh...it sure feels longer than that already :(

Your absence is excused, Vastie!

My danged mouse for my big computer has finally died a horrendous death. I'm using the new laptop right now, but it's difficult for me to type with long nails. Uggghhhhh.

A++++ for you!

Good morning, Miss Slip:

Draped over a computer or up on a book shelf
Curled up cozily in the bathroom sink
Draped over clothes upon hangers
Then disappearing from the closet in a wink

Cats move silently, silkily throughout their lives
Eerily relaxing like freshly poured cream
Always there when you least expect them
Cats are naturally malleable in the extreme!

Hello Jack!
I always love your kitties poems.

Children's minds are a malleable thing. So beware and act accordingly.

Very, very good, Jack.

I tried taking our cat Simba out for a walk in the backyard yesterday. Put one of the dog leashes on him. He hated it, but accepted it if I didn't hold it. It's red so I can see it very well. He got to smell his fresh catnip!

A++++ for you!

My brain can be malleable, too! Depends on my mood. Right now I'm upset that my big computer's mouse died. Now I'm using a laptop, and the keyboard is smaller. Drives me crazy.

A++++ for you, Esmeralda!

Earlier I could here my daughter chattering away outside, but couldn't make out what she was jabbering about and so I went and looked out the window.......she had one of her barn kittens draped over her shoulder and was explaining the tomato plants to it!!!!!
