Yea I put this up because I know some people are nuts about virtual desktops. Personally I don't get it, I even turn them off on my Linux boxes. I can see how you might really need them if you're using twm or wm but the taskbar has really eliminated the need for them..

Handy for some people with mixed environments. Shows any desktop on any platform with screen only fast protocol.
Used VNC (IIRC) years ago to work from home. I was using it on my windows box to see my X desktop at work.
If you don't mind the security hole, also useful as a console for headless boxes.
