Today we had to take my middle boy for surgery.
Seems my 4 y/o decided to stuff a lego up his left nostril. I could not fish it out, our peditrician couldn't fish it out, so surgery was the only option.
I guess it only is fair, as a 4 y/o I managed to plug my left ear with a piece of popcorn, that once swelled looked like a tumor.
A little upset?
Le'go my Lego!
We didn't see the actual act, but he told us about it once he figured it was stuck. By then I rushed him home (from my mother's house across the street) and immediately went to remedy the situation. But I could not succeed with him squirming and was afraid of doing damage with a metal tweezer in sinus areas with a sudden movement from a sobbing child.
We took him right then to the doctor who scheduled today's viewing and anaylst of sugery.
I left work when I got word of having to put him to sleep. He took it like a mini-trooper until after the fact, during recovery he screamed because he didn't like the IV.
Eh, it's a long story.
What hasn't gone up my nose??
Don't ever mess with Lego Jabba.
Linebacker. No question.
We still luv ya Laz.
You must not have kids. They can get things up there faster than CBS can forge documents!
Thank my Higher Power y'all do.
As an AFOL, I wouldn't let my children put my precious Lego Bricks up their noses.
When my son was 3, he fell while running with plastic sunglasses, and got a cut. We went to the hospital (insurance) and the decided to glue the cut shut -- it was new for them.
As they glued, the doctor didn't hold his hand on her side, and he swiped the glue and rubbed his eye, gluing his eyelid shut. Three-year-olds don't understand why they suddenly can't see out of one eye.
They had to put him under to unglue him. 3 specialists, and an hour later, they had dissolved the glue, but we were picking glue out of his eyebrows for the next month.
When he was around two, my son figured out how to remove the childproof caps off the electric outlets. He would then jam metal knives and forks into the outlet in his room. We had hook and eye locks on every door in the house, a baby gate into the kitchen, but he managed to wreak destruction.
I had two older girls, and neither of them thought of pulling out the lower drawers to get into mischief. By the time that boy was in bed, I was crawling on my hands and knees from exhaustion.
Another one was where he set the backyard on fire. My oldest was playing leapgrog and ate cement. Chipped front tooth, and bottom teeth went through her lower lip. Took her to Kaiser Permanente(unfortunately our insurance at the time), and they called the cops. Luckily, Lisa's mom watched it happen, and told me before I took the kid to the emergency room, that they'd call the cops and she would be a witness. I was pregnant with the boy when that happened.
I can happily say that none of the kids ever shoved something up their nose. Looking for change in the toilet, is another issue.
Poor kid! I bet he doesn't do that again!
I once swallowed a penny, but that's nothing compared to this.
We probably should have been more concerned about it than we were since some of them have a toxic zinc core.
I noticed the attendants were bashful in restraining my child after sugery when he tried pulling out his IV. I wonder if some parents have made the nurses reluctant to using physical restraint on children due to lawsuits or something.
Of course I jumped right in to make sure he didn't rip it out. It still bleed more that is should have because they delayed in refraiming him from self injury.
LOL, I glad I wasn't the only one who did that. My device of destruction was a magnifing glass. I was a fire bug.
My nephew at 3 years old had a habit of sticking breakfast cereals up his nose.
I advised my sister to buy Honey Comb cereal. It worked. It didn't fit. Too big.
I remember my mother having to do that for my younger brother (that was the one thing I didn't do as a child). The second time he did it, she said to heck with it, it will pass by itself.
Wow, I don't feel so bad now. My 2 yr old managed to write with Sharpie all over my leather ottoman and the $3000 flat screen tv today.
"I guess it only is fair,..."
Indeed, your parents' wish has come true.
Well, my kid was pretty good, never put nothing up her nose but her finger. And didn't start to put things in her mouth until she was about 8. I yelled at her about that: Why didn't you do that when you were two and I was watching for it?!?!?
But I remember my mom telling me about her older sister, who once put a string bean up her nose, which then began to grow! Don't know if this is really true or not, my mom has passed on, but her sister is about 87 years old now, and even served in WWII, so she survived!
