At the risk of alienating the roughly 1/3 of FReepers who, judging by the FR poll, support the Miers nomination, I believe its withdrawal has now become a question of when, not whether.
The final nail was probably the John Fund article in this morning's WSJ which strongly suggests that if hearings proceed, some very messy matters regarding the Texas Lottery and W's National Guard service will be dredged up. Here's a link to the Fund column:

Note also that, after staying above the fray, the influential Wall Street Journal editorial today calls the Miers nomination a "mistake."
So with this as preface, and again, with apologies in advance to FReepers who might be outraged at the exercise, I am starting this pool to predict when the announcement will come - be it from the WH or from Ms. Miers herself - that the nomination is being withdrawn.
I'll start the ball rolling by putting in my pick at the early end of the spectrum:
Monday, October 24th, 5 PM.
Have at it!
Hmm, perhaps a jumbo-sized eraser?
I don't know, governs. She may volutarily withdraw if she feels GW is being hurt by all of this. I probably would.
I'm looking forward to Boxer's charts. It's just not a political gang bang if Boxer can't show us posters.
I've never heard of a recess appointment to the SCOTUS. Is it legally possible? I'll do some quick research. In any case, I'd say the odds of a recess appointment are non-existent - it would be just too controversial.
Fund said this last week as well. The articles now are mostly retreads of previous stuff, just yelled louder.
"Hey, we are STILL making the same arguments, and it's another 7 DAYS that we've been doing these arguments. How many days do we have to oppose her before the shear weight of the days of opposition defeat this nomination?"
The only new thing was the suggestion (without attribution) that a senator had gone to the white house to specifically ask him to withdraw her name.
Monday morning or an hour after Wilma hits Florida.
Agreed, and under the Official Rules and Regulations of the pool, the date of an announcement by Ms. Miers herself of her withdrawal would also be eligible.
See para #5 of original post.
You can recess-appoint a supreme court justice.
However, there isn't a vacancy now, and I don't think you can recess-appoint if there isn't a vacancy.
O'Conner hasn't resigned yet, she will resign when a nominee is confirmed.
She will make it through committee and to the Senate floor. The confirmation hearings will be nasty, and if Harriet is lucky, she will squeak out a norrow confirmation. Something like Clarence Thomas's 52 votes. She will not withdraw barring any huge disclosures.
LMAO! Bush who didn't want a fight and thus nominated Miers, use a recess appointment for this? Only if DeLay lets him borrow his balls!
Replacement nominee will be Tom Osborne.
"Monday morning or an hour after Wilma hits Florida."
LOL. Perhaps announced by Michelle Kosinski in a life-raft on Sanibel Island?:

Excellent point.
Correct, I hadn't thought of that. Duh.
She will be rejected by the Judiciary Committee on November 7, and she'll announce her withdrawal the next day.
I think that they will ruminate on this over the weekend and decide that she's over. She will submit her withdrawal one week from today (Friday, 10-28) at 4PM to miss the news cycle.
I supported her for a while but this is getting embarrasing. Im hoping that she pulls the plug herself and its announced Monday 8 am Eastern.
