So far, no signs of any further tropical disturbances.

About the Beignets:
I just put about 1/2 cup of 10x sugar in a brown paper lunch bag, and put the warm Beignet in the bag and shook it. It turns out that the perfect amount of sugar sticks to it...;-))
And, yes, they were still warm...I also noticed that 3x3 seems to be the perfect size, and 4 minutes exactly in the oil seems to be the perfect time...;-))

Good Tuesday morning to everyone.
Lets keep an eye on Wilma and be prepared just in case.
Cheers to the Iraqis.
The Iraqis appear to have passed overwhelmingly their constitution, yet the media reports on investigations into fraud due to unusually high number of approval votes!
UNBELIEVABLE!
To: texianyankee
If the mainstream media weren't so astonishingly venal and stupid about, well, everything, they would realize the high number of "yes" votes means people want to have their fates decided by the ballot box instead of the ammo box.

Does anyone remember reading Nevil Shute btw? He wrote about WWII often, and used aviation as a starting point...His most famous novel is On the Beach, tho...

GOOD A.M. TO ALL FROM THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST, USA, BRUISED BUT NOT BROKEN!!!!
Got to go into town with SIL this morning, things to do, things to pick up.
Question. Can we apply to FEMA for funding to help with feeding and housing our 'guest' from La (all 11 of them)? SIL says no, D says yes, someone with knowledge of FEMA please advise. Only one 'guest' is 'chipping' in, the other 10 are just 'sitting' in. I feel bad about going and getting things like food, etc., from the relief centers. There are folks out there around here who surely need it more that we do.
Can't get the insurance adjuster to come out, things needing fixing bad like two whole walls, got soaking wet, mold growing and it is not a pleasant smell, call them and they say they will be out 'shortly' which their 'shortly' has run 6 weeks now.
Big battle starting in New Orleans about the Saints moving to Texas, Super Dome ruined, can't play games in it, playing in Texas and they like what they see out there. Oh well, move. Bye.
Nagin to evacuate New Orleans as soon as Wilma gets to Cuba.
Ain't gonna take no chances, wouldn't take long, one station wagon and a horse and buggy will vacate the whole town, no one is moving back, estimated as much aw 50% of the residents will not move back.
This cool weather is nice, won't last long, more 90 degree weather starts tomorrow. We need rain as well, dry as a bone.
Here is wishing all have a good and productive day, the kind of day YOU want. Let is hope that Wilma just fades away and leaves all of us along. Toby

Good morning! The Scotsman
reports concern from Microsoft that proposals in the UK for an identity card could lead to massive problems of identity theft.
Using the same "identifiers" every time the ID card as presented is a "highly risky technical design" and could inadvertently broadcast personal information to fraudsters or private companies.
My opinion is that America should watch closely what the UK is doing, as it heaps on more government regulation over personal lives, and we should do the opposite. Already, there's too much government regulation in our lives, a National ID card will only add to government regulation, make it easier than it already is for the government to database us, and now the people charged with coming up with a system for a national ID card say it ain't safe.
Just food for thought ...

yet the media reports on investigations into fraud due to unusually high number of approval votes! I chose to look at the glass being half full.
They appear to be looking into possible excesses of "yes" votes in areas where it wasn't expected. If it's nothing, it'll be nothing.
Actually, this is a tad better than what goes on here when pricincts vote overwhelmingly DemoncRAT with 105% of the registered voters participating; which is nothing.

Good Morning!

Molly, the only Neville Shute book I ever read was "On the Beach". I still remember the apocalypic scenario of life after a nuculear war. What is the title of the one you're reading?
I'm w/your daughter on the matter of the 10 eating, non-helping sitters-in, Toby. Do they not feel any embarrassment at their free loading? (Reminds me of the saying that after 3 days both fish and guests begin to stink.)

Play nicely in my absence.Everytime you post that I'm reminded of the things my brother and I did when we were younger.
So many....but the two that stick out...are:
We loved water balloons. We lived in the "projects". Mom's and Dad's bedroom was second story with a front window. Choice pickins when our friends walked by. We pelted them with water balloons.
Needless to say, we knew all heck would break loose if mom found all that water in her bedroom. We mopped it all up to the last drop. Whew!! We are safe!! Mom would come home. Hmm..so far so good....UNTIL she goes into the bathroom. I can still recall her words..."You've been throwing water balloons again, eh"?
Well, hit us with one...our jaws dropped. We looked at each other with the look of "How the heck did she know?"
Guess what? One of the rims of a balloon was mistakenly left on the bathroom faucet. Dang! She was good...real good. ;-)
The second ....which is appropriate for this time of year..is mom always warned us that if we ever soaped windows while trick or treating we would be in deep doo doo. So we never did.
One year we got the urge, but back in our minds was her saying, "if you ever soap someone's windows...!!"
Okay, there was a little leeway in that statement or demand or command.
Oh, the intelligence of a older brother who was 9 and a younger sister of 8 could probably fit in a thimble. LOL
You must remember..the urge was there. Other's did it. Yes, we heard the " well, if so and so jumped off a bridge would you?" Still, it was overpowering.
So....we soaped our own windows and screens knowing that we would have to clean them...LOL

Good morning. I am doing errands today and packing. We are leaving for Florida tomorrow and will be back next week.
And what a bad day to leave. MSNBC just said that the special prosecutor may announce indictments tomorrow. And Saddam's trial starts tomorrow as well.
