My Dragon Fly and Me
If I could be a Dragon Fly and wing my way through the sky I would never be shy just me and my Dragon Fly!
By moonlight we ride the wind chase the comets tail for fun by day we would hide from the sun our fragile wings would come undone
On darkest nights we would use fireflies as our guide we would dip and we would glide through the heavens open wide and scatter diamonds in the night sky my Dragon Fly and me...
And we would wing past our lovers silent in the night... to kiss their face in our flight much to their surprise and delight my Dragon Fly and me in sight...
Such a view do we share away up here in the air of breezes soft through our hair my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

I am mostly, as you notice, a free-verser, too...but it's fun to structure sometimes. Stretches you as a writer. Can you do it and not sound trite? Can you do it and not sound too artificial?
There's tricks to it, of course.

My great adventure into structure is Haiku, which I do very badly.

Puzzling the day
interwoven threads of life
fabric made of hope

Hustle bustle away
running errands this day
left some blood hope it's okay....
Ouch, me bad.

Through the court yards of my town
damp and clammy all around
walking fast and furious
it's too, wet to see the dust
my heels kicked up along the way
I made tracks on a sunless day.
Zipping up the avenues
the cracks filled with cigarette butts
I thought if I were on the bench
a few who are doing time
would sweep the cracks clear
learning public service
is not a quirk, many
do it freely I am told, and
I don't put my used butts there. :)

In this moment between moments, when I see what I have done
In this pausing, as if to catch my breath, while I watch the setting sun,
A lacuna in the quiet,as my race in nearly run
Some things I leave with sad regret, for others there is none.
Pain and sorrow, loss and gain, the human road goes on,
More good I hope I leave behind than pain when I am gone,
A word or two I've woven well, a dream of golden dawn
Of God's hand upon the lost and lone when all hope feels withdrawn.
Soon shall this race be finished and my road will cease to climb
And then I'll wake in that fair morn that is not bound by time,
And the words that I have gathered will grow there more sublime
Where my clumsy tongue, unbounded, will find a truer rhyme.

Today is Wednesday, Dec. 28, the 362nd day of 2005 with three
to follow. The moon is waning. The morning stars are Mercury,
Jupiter, Pluto and Saturn. The evening stars are Venus, Mars,
Uranus and Neptune.

Loreena McKennitt - Dante's Prayer When the dark wood fell before me
And all the paths were overgrown
When the priests of pride say there is no other way
I tilled the sorrows of stone
I did not believe because I could not see
Though you came to me in the night
When the dawn seemed forever lost
You showed me your love in the light of the stars
Cast your eyes on the ocean
Cast your soul to the sea
When the dark night seems endless
Please remember me
Then the mountain rose before me
By the deep well of desire
From the fountain of forgiveness
Beyond the ice and fire
Cast your eyes on the ocean
Cast your soul to the sea
When the dark night seems endless
Please remember me
Though we share this humble path, alone
How fragile is the heart
Oh give these clay feet wings to fly
To touch the face of the stars
Breathe life into this feeble heart
Lift this mortal veil of fear
Take these crumbled hopes, etched with tears
We'll rise above these earthly cares
Cast your eyes on the ocean
Cast your soul to the sea
When the dark night seems endless
Please remember me
Please remember me

This is one of the most beautiful songs I have heard. The presentation is gorgeous.
