~The Dragonflies'Lair~Poetry Thread XXIII
October 18, 2005 | bentfeather/The Poets of the Lair

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

I would hold him deep
in my heart to keep
alive and well
the mystic that love can be.

I would send him out for he rejects all of the inner me, he does not know.

But, we learn of one another
through dark and lonely times
if true love is with the other
in time it will shine.

I do not know all of you,
but love you as a friend
the part I see shining through
is friendship from end to end.

FOG

The fog comes
on little cat feet.

It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.

Good Morning, snippy!

Oh, wonderful poem and graphic.

Dreary day in the Empire State, raining, cold and generally gloomy.

The very thought of you and I forget to do
The little ordinary things that everyone ought to do
I’m living in a kind of daydream
I’m happy as a king
And foolish though it may seem
To me that’s everything

The mere idea of you, the longing here for you
You’ll never know how slow the moments go till I’m near to you
I see your face in every flower
Your eyes in stars above
It’s just the thought of you
The very thought of you, my love

The mere idea of you, the longing here for you
You’ll never know how slow the moments go till I’m near to you
I see your face in every flower
Your eyes in stars above
It’s just the thought of you
The very thought of you, my love

-words and music by ray noble - best rendition, imo - nat king cole

Hi, Snippy! This song is actually an old favorite of mine - thanks for posting!

Sort of an anthem of mine, actually. :)

Those are some beautiful lyrics, and a wonderful picture to accompany it. Where is the picture taken, do you know?

I took the picture a couple years ago. It is of the Columbia River Gorge here in Oregon near Multnomah Falls and Mount Hood. I'm glad you like it.

I lived in St. Helens and Scappoose Oregon for about 17 months...that is some beautiful country!

My daughter was born in Portland. I also took a trip to the coast. Went to Astoria.

Hi snippy, oh I love these lyrics. Wonderful poetry.

The music is running through my head as I type.

Great picture, thanks much.

The fiery sinking sun, kisses
daily, our far flung horizon.
Budda, contemplating life, misses
God's light that, for us, shone.

Peace is a place in the heart

Another Land

Soft and sweet, the echoes haunt the green hills of my memories,
where dances the music, and stories, and joy of times gone now.
Myths, music, and legends woven together under the verdant trees,
to hint at times and places when magic was common, and heroes didn’t bow.

Dancing feet floated in a jig across the rough sawn plank floors,
and the beat of them in counterpoint to the music so darling sweet.
The smell of the damp, wind tossed fens, and fog shrouded moors,
where lives still the possibilities of myth, and magic, and mysteries so fleet.

Sunrise brings the bright colors of the coming day to life around,
and we feel the renewal in ourselves as we scent the sea dew washed air.
But, sunset brings the story hours where anything can and does abound,
and once more the heroes rise, and every damsel is sweet and fair.

Good evening Miss Feather . . . yes, I really like that graphic . . . I tried to write a haiku for it last night, but it just wasn't working for me . . . so, I tried again tonight, it's not a haiku, but, I think it works OK? Hubby doesn't like it . . .he thinks it's discriminatory, so I told him to read my tagline!!! . . . .;-)
