The Hobbit Hole XXV - Fare you well! Fare you well!
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 10/15/2005 7:13:08 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Fare you well! Fare you well!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

It is not like we get all 'shmoopy' or anything.

I just remembered Buddy Hacket singing "Shi-Poo-Pi" from The Music Man...just when I thought I'd forgotten it :(

So herewith my revenge:

"Mango..."

It seems like a happy word, that one might use to address a sad person, as in:

"Hey honey, quit sitting there all shmoopy and get back in the canoe, OK??"

"Hey honey, quit sitting there all shmoopy and get back in the canoe, OK??"

I imagine the "honey" being soaked to the skin and highly irritated in that mental picture. ;-)

'Schmoopy' comes from my sister and her husband. They would mock overly
'lovey-dovey' couples by making 'cute eyes's at each other and saying "Oh your the schmoopist." "No you are schmoopier." and similar things in the most sickening like cutesy voices they could.

Heh...

I think you've created a slight variation to Talon's original definition.

Evenin'

Corin was in bored meetings from about 8:30 until 4:30 today. My eyes were glazed over by noon and my butt went numb at 1:00. I have an average of two per week for the next three weeks.

That said, The DVD of our 2004 Christmas production is here.

I have a copy available for Hobbit Hole viewing. I know Suzi wants to see it. If any of the rest of you do, freepmail me your snail mail address and I'll put a list together.

I won't be offended if you don't really want to see it. Just lemme know.

I'd love to see it!

If for no other reason than to point and laugh. (Kidding!)
