Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Fare you well! Fare you well!
New verse:
|
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Yep! Met Empress for lunch. Talked a lot about the nature of Ninja Llamas from Beyond. Will have stuff to add to the werdcount tonight.
Didn't gossip about you guys too much. :)

I wonder if anyone in the Hobbit Hole has listened to the BBC dramatization of The Lord of the Rings? I have been listening to it. The script is fine, but I think the BBC needs to take lessons in radio dramas from the classic American age of radio drama. Bluntly the sound effects are really bad, and the acting is so so.
I have been trying to find if there is a book on tape/cd out there for the Lord of the Rings. I rather doubt it and imagine it would be abridged.

The Hobbit is available in audio book (unabridged). I can't recall about LOTR. Others will know.

I think many here have that BBC version... I don't.Actually, honey, you do have it. What's mine is yours, you know. ;~D
Overall, I like it. There are many things in the book that are extremely difficult to convey in a strictly audio format, and sometimes it just doesn't work. And it is kind of jarring to go back and listen to it now, and hear Ian Holm playing Frodo instead of Bilbo.
But I enjoy the music, and I've always kind of liked Peter Woodthorpe's Gollum (he voiced Gollum in the Bakshi too), although it can be over the top at times.
I have the complete audio version of LOTR on mp3 too, but haven't listened to much of it.

Thanks very much! You got me all excited. Now I need to come up with $90 or so. I was searching my local library previously but they don't stock this. The fact it is unabridged is a real bonus too. The movies and the BBC productions skip over the barrow wights and Tom Bombadil.

Seems editors all hate Bombadil, don't they?
Do you listen to the tapes in the car? When I had a long commute, I used to do a lot of books on tape.

The Advil worked wonders! It feels much better and doesn't hurt unless I forget and move it too quickly.
I've made an appointment to see a chiropractor tomorrow at 11am. At the very least they'll take x-rays to be sure it isn't anything serious.
If all it turns out to be is some sort of tendonitis, I'll just rest it as much as possible and keep taking Advil until it heals. :-D
Thank you!
