The Hobbit Hole XXV - Fare you well! Fare you well!
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 10/15/2005 7:13:08 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Fare you well! Fare you well!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Thanks!! I don't think I'd ever seen Alexander's writing before. Looks just like his Dad's(my brother, Gerry)! Thanks so much for sending him the knife! I'll e-mail Gerry and let him know who it is who sent it.

Our youngest, Joseph, just got an iPod Nano last week. He LOVES the thing, except he does NOT like the ear-bud headphones. He found them VEY uncomfortable!

He wants one of those funky color silicone sleeves to put the Nano in because he doesn't like the fact that he keeps getting it all smeared with fingerprints! ;o) We'll likely get one for him for Christmas. He's also looking at the iHome, which is a docking port for charging the iPod, and it's an alarm clock, AM/FM radio with a good set of speakers to play the Nano through.

A toaster in the first chapter, I promise.

And cheese.

And a Guido.

What other "must-haves" are on the list?

Speak to My Soul

Oh, is that the name of YOUR novel, Rose?

I can do that.

The veterinarian can be addicted to Nilla Wafers ...

Say, Hair! Are Nilla Wafers bad for dogs? Say one or two a night, as a treat?

Yep ... at least, Speak To My Soul is the working title. Several people in the novel have trouble communicating, in one way or another.

Maybe Speak To Me At Midnight? Nah ... too stilted.

...or not.

My little solo chat-view of LOTR continues tonight. Now into disk 2 of TTT. Again... I keep forgetting how great Howard Shore's score was.

How can somebody get the theme's so absolutely dead-on? The Edoras Theme, for example. It simply could not have been better.

<smile>

After my father died, my mother had five dogs, three of them Lab-Shepherd-border collie mixes who had the Lab-Shepherd size, one a Husky mix, and one a border collie mix. My mother was about 5-foot-3 and small-framed ... the four largest dogs were at least as heavy as she, if not heavier.

These dogs ate three times a day. They had boiled chicken and cooked rice every morning --- she would boil the chicken necks and pick the meat off the bone. They had bran cereal for a snack in the afternoons, and dog food in the evenings. They got ice in their water cans on hot days, and every week they got boiled neckbones to chew.

Every night, after they had their dog food, my mother would get the box of Nilla Wafers. She would shake the box, and all five would gather at the back door, prancing eagerly in place. She would stand inside the screen door for a few moments, talking to them in baby talk, and then step out and toss each dog a cookie. They would catch the cookies in mid-air, snap!

Sometimes, she would hand them a cookie. They would take it from her hand, very carefully, and then go back on alert, looking for more.

I think I'll put the Nilla Wafers in Speak To My Soul.

Thanks again, Ramius!

Yep... the Rohan music is wonderful. The other great theme is the nature theme that plays when Treebeard finally decides Saruman is a problem ;~D

The weird thing about that nature theme is that he uses it again when the Rohirrim arrive over the rise at Pellanor fields. Not sure why.

Ah! Now that I'm home, no one else is!

The problem with doing homework in groups, is that groups attract alcohol and alcohol attracts chatting. And I had been kidnapped so I couldn't get myself home. Now I am home and it's late and I'd better go to bed.

But I did have a little fun gossiping about everyone we know, including ourselves.

Very cool letterhead that guy's got.

When I emailed him back, the first thing I said was anything with horses and crossed sabres is tops in my book.
