Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Fare you well! Fare you well!
New verse:
|
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Argh! Sorry to hear about that.... seriesly, do you actually have some sort of curse on you? Cuz I don't believe in that sort of thing but I'll make an exception in your case.

Most of the time I think it's a bad idea for a wife to tell her husband what to do straight out but in this case: tell him to do it in such a way that if they spend another semester and still don't like the thesis, he can hand in a project at the same time and be done. Don't let him trust these people any more. I think you should appoint yourself Steve's new advisor.

So what is the standard technique? Subliminal mind rays? Bribery? Blackmail? Disguised nagging? I ask purely out of random curiosity.
To: TalonDJ
Hypothetically I think it's something along the lines of being enthusiastic about the good ideas and less so about the bad ones. I shall have to ask Mom, she and Dad have never fought but I don't think he's ever done anything she seriously didn't want him to.
The subliminal mind ray thing is a good plan but it risks accidentally brainwashing passersby, visitors, cats, small children...

My cat has been staring at me a lot lately. I think she's using that subliminal mind ray thing.

Either that or she's getting hungry enough to contemplate killing you and eating you.

Yeah it might be inconvenient when random passersby show up at the door wanting to do your laundry or mow the lawn.

Nah, it'd just be more bodies to bury in the back along with the door-to-door salesmen, Jehovah's Witnesses, and nosy neighbors.

But with a submliminal mind ray, you could just make them forget they'd ever been there... no need for burials.

It might not be such a bad thing if my house all got blowed away and I could start over...
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
If you make them forget they have been there they might come back later. Set the ray for 'this is not the house you are looking for' and they will assume they have already been there and pass right by.
I use to do that but I had a heck of a time finding my house when I was coming home from work.

Many prayers going up! I'll put Steve (and you) on my Parish Prayer list!
