Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Fare you well! Fare you well!
New verse:
|
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

God bless the men and women who stand with their strong backs to the homefires and their sharp eyes on the menacing shadows. Thank you, one and all. "Fare thee well," indeed.
Aw garsh Miss Rose.
BTW, I finally found a picture of a guy pumping gas (well JP5) using the same kinda truck I used.
Aim High!
You got that right. I'm down here in a fuel truck!
What I did in the war Cold War.

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Senior Airman Matthew Spatz pumps fuel to a C-130 Hercules after a tactical airlift mission here. He is a fuels specialist with the 447th Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron here. (U.S. Air Force photo by Master Sgt. Al Gerloff)
Smell the JP4 size
The truck is an R-11 refueler made by Oshkosk (the fire truck folks). It's got a 6 cylinder turbo-diesel engine, is about 440 inches long, and weighs in loaded at about 68,000 pounds.

No "aw garsh" from you! You read Heinlein ...
Neat picture! I especially like the "Smell the JP4" size link!

Season 2. We're up to midnight now. I like it a lot better than Season 1... except for the annoying Kim storyline.

We've been watching X-Files. Jen hadn't ever seen 'em before, so I decided we'd watch them here and there amongst other Netflix stuff.
Wish I could remember which season it was that I started to get annoyed with the show. The first season is pretty good so far, though it kinda feels as if even *they* had no clue where exactly it was going, and some episodes are pretty silly.
Now Jen's on the phone with a certain other Hobbit Holer and I just played with Knoppix for awhile. Works surprisingly well - I didn't think it'd have any idea what to do with my PCMCIA wireless card, for one, since I had to download a driver to get it to work in XP. But it found the wireless network right off.
Seems like a good tool to have, even if that's all I ever use it for.
And now I'm backing up my system in preparation for rebuilding it this weekend. *sigh* It's going to be a long haul.

For me, IIRC, X-Files started to get annoying after the movie came out... I forget which season that was though, 5 or 6 maybe.
Oh, if you get the chance, make sure you watch the Season 3 episode "Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space'". Funniest X-Files episode ever!

Oh... if you're looking for TV series DVDs to rent... try Babylon 5. Start with "The Gathering" (avoid "In The Beginning") then go to Season 1. Best SF television show every made, IMHO.

Wish I could remember which season it was that I started to get annoyed with the show. For me it was when Mulder went off the deep end and the FBI let him keep his gun.
