Home is behind, the world ahead, |

you *bought* your eggnog?
In all my life I have never bought, nor tasted store-bought eggnog. It is considered a grave sin in my family to purchase eggnog. Eggnog must always be homemade and strong enough to get you snockered off of two cupfuls.
Heh... the Balrog in this office down here has a fairly impressive gun collection in a safe in his office. Including a genuine BAR.
His are probably legitimate. I had serious doubts about the legality of the Lahti, especially since it was owned by the son of a VEY high-ranking RAT state judge. I had to admit, however, that the $5 million "summer home" he had nestled in the hills outside Ann Arbor was pretty nice, too.
It's odd ... but I can relate. In my home, we had fish every Friday, usually fresh filets of red snapper or "redfish" (dunno what it was). But in months ending in the letter R, we would also have oysters, raw ones that came out of a widemouth glass jar.
Now, I know I ate these oysters, many times. I believe I'd even watched Mamma dip 'em in buttermilk and corn meal and fry 'em up. But one day, I saw her take the oysters out of the jar, and I wanted to gag. Not only would I not touch them, or the jar they came in, I would rant about how disgusting they were.
I was, maybe, four.
It's a texture thing, I think.
Ah-la-la!
Goooooooood morning!
Speaking of bourbon. I'm not a drinker, so I don't have a clue about these things, but a couple of my characters have signature drinks they like. One is a crusty, war-worn general facing the results of a successful war of attrition waged against him. He's a fighting man facing ultimate failure, but he and his men will go down fighting. What should a man like that drink?
Second character is a weaselly school administrator who got busted for skimming money off of scholarship funds to line his own pocket. What does a man like that drink?
Heyyyy....you got that wrong. I'ms supposed to be something that eats squirrels!
You lost me with the ketchup on collards.
Thanks! Good stuff.
It is an alien planet but I can certainly base the thin off something like this.

Ok, now I have a copy of the email in my hands.
Ok, the email says and I quote "You have done enough work already for either a report or a creative component paper but you may have to take more coursework if that is our decision."
I *think* a thesis option requires 32 hours, I believe Steve has 35 hours counting this semester's hours...if they'll count, seeing as they're thesis hours. For the creative component or report, he'll need more hours.
It also says he hasn't given up on the thesis, but the whole tone of the email is such that it seems to be preparing him for such an eventuality.
It also says "Either way, there is no realistic way to complete the degree requirements this semester...the positive side is that either option can be completed in one more semester."
We have a lot of questions, naturally...I told Steve when he left this morning that I would be waiting to hear from him...to keep me posted. He didn't get irritable and actually looks like he feels better...like something's being done.
It seems from the email that the creative component or report can actually be from the data he collected for the thesis and that's good. He won't have to just toss the whole thing.
However, polluting a fine bourbon like Maker's Mark (90 proof) or Wild Turkey (as high as 101 proof) with water or ice is a minor sin.
Ramius is our Wild Turkey expert, for sure!
If your general is a Yankee, he probably drinks Scotch whisky (note the missing "e"), a single malt like Glenfidditch or Glenlivet.
Jack Daniels is NOT a bourbon, although it's made of the same stuff as bourbon; it's processed differently. Jack Daniels is a Tennessee whiskey. Jack Black (Label) is also a good choice for your general, no matter where he's from.
As for your weasel ... anything fruity made with champagne, like a mimosa (champagne and orange juice) or a fruity martini, like an apple martini. These are girl drinks!
Oh my oh my oh my...
My stomach is growlin'!
got a few hundred in this morning. Maybe I can get more caught up today.
I have ketchup issues.
Dripping in butter.

Ok, the General is leading a small army of "nationalists". The nationalists didn't hold with the dissolution of the U.S. in order to create a socialist UN-type government called the Global Union. The General is a "western" soul, more cowboy/mountain man than yankee, he's an old-fashioned American. He's literate, well-educated, and sentimental at times, an archetypical General. Classy and rugged.
