Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Fare you well! Fare you well!
New verse:
|
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Heh...like Zaboo? Am I the only one who's ever seen that show? He reminds me of Tam, who is slightly monkey-like for a cat...

The one on the right...Chris, I think?
I remember they're Chris and Martin, but I don't remember which name goes with which.

LOL!
I think they actually co-wrote the show - they're really brothers.
I shudder to think of what MY brothers could do to TV if they teamed up.

Swiss chard? Well... I dunno what "chard" is, but I suppose if it is Swiss it is somewhat more orderly and more on time than other sorts of chard.

And visits you with chocolate and lost of boring statistics a couple times a year?
That's what the Swiss faction did at the company I used to work for.

Collard greens are nim, nim, good!
In the South, we like our dark leafy vegetables. Collard greens are a kind of cabbage that doesn't curve into a head; a lot of landscapers use these for accents.
They're often cooked in the winter, because they're resistant to frost. My mother would bring them home, tear chunks of the leaves off the veins, and rinse the pieces in three waters --- salty, to kill the snails, and two clears, to get rid of the salt and the sand. Then you simmer the pieces with onions, garlic, and a nice smoked ham hock (or, nowadays, a smoked turkey leg) until everything is cooked down and tender.
In my house, greens were usually served with some kind of pork --- pork chops or ribs were my preference --- and corn bread. Maybe some rice on the side. The "pot likker" (the greenish liquid left behind by simmering) got sopped up by the corn bread, so you didn't miss the good-for-you part.
And you could do the same thing with turnip greens (the tops of turnips), mustard greens (yeah, that kind of mustard, also good with ketchup), Swiss chard (a kind of beet that has no bulb) ... I'll bet I could do the same think with bok choy. Mmmmm ... soul food!

I am so sorry to hear that all this time and hard work is not going to be beneficial. I can almost feel what you're going through.
I am glad though that there is an end in sight, that is not likely to get pushed back.
What is involved in the creative component for him?
To: RosieCotton
heh... Don't have a Swiss faction... but that's what I'd expect them to do if we did. :-)

And my beasties make Grizzlies look like large dogs. Nope, we are talking over .50, high velocity and preferably high explosive. he is shortly going to use one to detonate a tank of liquid oxygen from about a mile and a half. He might do it with his eyes closed just to make it fair. You want a Finnish 20mm Lahti antitank rifle, circa 1932. Bigger than a ma deuce, about 200 lbs, and 8 feet long. Fired HUGH rounds from a 5-shot top-mount magazine, semiauto. The bipod had skis on the bottom, since Finland has been known to have a lot of snow.
Workmanship was superb, even on the wooden shipping crate, called "the coffin" because of its shape. I saw one in real life, and if I had touched it, I probably would only now be getting out of the federal slammer.

That's the thing... I don't know a kid that's ever been forced to eat something who said "ooh yum! I was wrong, and I really love this now!" I am gonna have to disagree with you on this one.
I used to feed KarateBoy whatever I ate, and he would eat... then he turned two. All the sudden he refused everything except for peanut butter sandwhiches. He says he hates jelly, or green beans, or pudding or nachos... it doesn't really matter what the food is. What all these have in common is that he doesn't remember that they are yummy, and it is as if he has never tried them. He automatically thinks he hates food he has never tried, and it is a huge battle to get a mere taste of the food onto his tongue.
I have gradually widened his menu to include normal kid foods like pizza, fish sticks, chicken, and hot dogs. He still doesn't really like hamburgers or pasta of any kind.... except for last week, I got him to try mac-n-cheese, and he raved at how yummy it was. Now it is all he can talk about.
I almost can't believe I have a kid who ~doesn't~ like Mexican food!
