The Hobbit Hole XXV - Fare you well! Fare you well!
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 10/15/2005 7:13:08 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Fare you well! Fare you well!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I see.

His poor parents. They must have been embarrassed.

I'm convinced that they try to humiliate their parents at least once a day. God's way of keeping us humble, I guess. :-)

Does eggnog ~really~ count as "eggs"?

Hmmmm....

I can't stand milk and eggs because my mother forced me to eat them when I was little.

That's the thing... I don't know a kid that's ever been forced to eat something who said "ooh yum! I was wrong, and I really love this now!" I think they grow up still hating whatever it was. It's a power struggle and the food is merely the vehicle. :~D

Reverse psychology works well with most kids. Until they get wise to it, of course.

If I tell them they can't have any and that they'll hate it and that I'm just being a good mom by sparing them the absolute torture of having to even taste it, they'll practically beg for one teensy-weensy nibble.

Heh. I've gotten them to eat lots of stuff like that.

Mmmmm... egg nog. Just picked up some of that today. It's good in my espresso instead of creamer. Egg Nog Latte!

I haven't had Eggnogg since I was diagnosed as a diabetic a few years ago :(

Man, how I miss it during the yuletide [which used to start for me in September ;) ]

Oh! I meant to ask you.

What type of woodland creature would you like to be?

Rosie & ecurbh - that goes for you too.

Jen - koala
OT and Hair - squirrels
Corin - goat

I have a mouse and a llama up for grabs for the ladies. I'm willing to change their names if you really want it. :-D
