You scored as Maximus. After his family was murdered by the evil emperor Commodus, the great Roman general Maximus went into hiding to avoid Commodus's assassins. He became a gladiator, hoping to dominate the colosseum in order to one day get the chance of killing Commodus. Maximus is valiant, courageous, and dedicated. He wants nothing more than the chance to avenge his family, but his temper often gets the better of him.

better late than never... right?...
Wha? Not going to approve it? Why on earth not?
I don't know anything about the situation, obviously, but I do know that if you get to the point where you've got a thesis written and they won't accept it, your advisor has NOT done his/her job.
Ninja can be whatever they want. Good guys, bad guys, llamas from the future...
*yoink!!!*
thanks bro...
Thanks.
I'm seriously considering going to get some cholesterol medicine.
we couldn't be so lucky...
I'll tell you more tomorrow when I can get to the email from the guy, but it really breaks down (IMO) to a lack of communication between the guy and Steve. The guy didn't communicate with Steve and Steve never bothered to stay in touch with him...all this time. I've had to hound him (a big no-no) just to follow up when he's turned in the paper.
So I'd like to throttle the advisor...and then I'd like to throttle Steve. It's very frustating because getting mad and hitting the ceiling would be pointless.
The thing is...I told Steve years ago not to do the thesis option. He had a "creative component" option he could do instead but he wouldn't listen to me. Very frustrating and he feels pretty bad about it now.
I got real upset at first and started to rant, but the conversation worked its self around to the city and how they're expecting the paper to be finished any day. Well, it's actually finished and it's just not acceptable to OSU. But it's likely not unacceptable to the City...they don't even seem all that interested in it...I think it's something to make them look like they're concerned about the environment...you know...like "Look, we even did a study."
So I was mad...really starting to rant...so I told him to turn that paper in to the city...told him "This is an embarrassment, but city doesn't need to be telling you that! Nobody can say this is an embarrassment to you but me!"
Which suddenly struck us both as very funny and we cracked up.
:-)
I'll keep y'all in my prayers!
I think, if you want my honest opinion...I think Steve knew the paper wasn't going to be defendable. I hate to say it but I believe that's why he got so defensive every time I brought it up...remember, I even told you at ShootMoot that it wasn't something I could discuss with him.
But I think he just wanted to succeed so bad at it that he couldn't give it up.
If you knew his brother, you'd understand...his brother does neurological research, writes grants, is a Phd at Stanford University. He's published, you know? Steve is very smart...but writing is not his strong point! I've known that all along, but he wouldn't let go of that dream of "writing a paper of significance". The problem is, his research was too variable...too many things weren't controlled and he couldn't get a clear result.
I love him and the good thing about him is he won't give up! The bad thing is, he won't adapt if things don't go the way he expects.
Thanks, Suzi...at this point that's all I can do...pray for him.
I'll know more tomorrow, when I can access the email again and see exactly what it says and compare it to what his advisor says to him when he meets with him.
Yes, but what did mister'nad score?
Is there any chance he can change it to a project type thing now? Sheesh...
Yes. Apparently that's one of his options. His advisor said he was going to speak to two other people on his committee to see if there was any way to salvage the thesis, but I think he's preparing Steve for the project option.
But that will mean a graduation in the Spring.
Which will at least mean I'll get to see him walk across the ever-loving STAGE!
I beg your pardon...Steve's brother is a research phd at Stanford University Neurosurgery.
They are minions. The do the bidding of their master or employer. Good or bad depends on what orders they get.
I was thinking about putting them in the Final Battle, but I'm not sure on which side. Might even make 'em ninja llamas from a parallel universe or something.
ack!
Reaching for some hot tea I snagged a bag of 'green tea with mango', and now I have a stuid Saturday Night Live sketch stuck in my head. :-P
