Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Fare you well! Fare you well!
New verse:
|
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Sure, but you probably can't count the number of times you have met her and the number of times you have talked to her on the phone on the one hand.
To: TalonDJ
Well, we can fix the second one pretty easily...
Ack! a virus-ridden laptop of DOOOM has ruined my chance of a NaNo lunch.

RATS! RATS! RATS!
So I'm writing during lunch and I wonder why the "MacKenzie" name sounds so familiar. It's the name of Lana Turner's character in "Peyton Place."
Oh well, it's sticking and we'll change it in editing after November 30...

'find & replace' fixes all.
It's a common enough name to keep I think.
To: TalonDJ
Yeah, I may keep it. I don't have a better one at this point.

Just call it an homage... or a pastiche.

LF - speaking of excerpts...c'mon girl, post sumthin'! Done! Minor character takes a leak and everyone dies. (It's the only scene I have handy here at work.)
To: Corin Stormhands
Cheese sandwich?
Ack! I can't keep up. I've got my Guido already, tho.
To: Corin Stormhands
4469 words. Turned out the death-laptop can't be fixed today so I get lunch after all. Aloe plant. Check.
Think I'll do the toaster in the next scene.

AFAIK, these are the "required" elements.
Guido
cheese sandwich
toaster
badger
aloe plant
ninja
llama
Am I missing any? And, FWIW, I think now that we've started, we have to stop adding to the list.
I enjoyed writing the following:
It wasnt always that way. A distant relative ran the other white funeral home in town. But somewhere in the 1920s there was an incident. No one knew the exact details of the incident, but it involved, in no particular order, a hearse, a young lady, moonshine and fried chicken. The MacKenzie family had taken their dead to Giordanos ever since.
I just realized, I could have put the entire list in right there...

Bonus points if the ninja and the llama are the same.

You ought to read Janet Evanovich's 'Stephanie Plum' novels - funeral homes play a major role in the social circles of the aged. ;P
To: Lil'freeper
Sounds like chick lit.
Guido Giordano's funeral home is not a central part of the story.
I had to bury the corpse.
I had to use "Guido."

Side-splitting funny and irreverant chick-lit. I used one of Evanovich's character names for my Guido - Guido Morelli the fashion designer. Evanovich's Joe Morelli is a hunk of yummy hot stuff.
To: Corin Stormhands
How about a turkey and cheese sandwich? she offered.
Sure. Be careful of the toaster, though. Its evil, if you dont watch it youll get burned. Does that count for the toaster? How about the cheese sandwich?

Mine is still ~supposed~ to be serious drama. But I want some of the quirkier aspects of southernors to show thru.
