Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Fare you well! Fare you well!
New verse:
|
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Don't remember that line...
My favorite part is a total rip-off of 2001 with the centrifugal crew area, followed by the "zero-G" dance to Van Halen.

Must be a different movie....I don't remember anything like that.

Ah, 1668 and calling it quits for the night. I was running out of momentum. since I kinda sorta know what comes next it should go fast if I let it stew over night.
To: Overtaxed
Might have been that OTHER lousy mars movie that came out. I have avoided seeing either of them.
To: TalonDJ
Ghosts of Mars or some such? I was completely unimpressed with the adverts.

"Red Planet"? It was watchable if you don't take it seriously.

This lousy Mars movie came out in the 50's or 60's. You got the crew already Mars-bound and the skipper's explaining orbits. Wouldn't walk across the street with that crew.

It would have been a lot better if it had been based on the Heinlein novel of the same name.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
See, that's what I thought, too.

It's like watching Bakshi, perhaps. You know it's going to suck (in parts, anyway); you even know precisely how it's going to suck, but there's enough to like that you (I) 'll watch it anyway.

I kinda liked the lousy Mars movie from the 60s that filmed all of the "Mars" scenes through a red filter.
To: JenB
Was that the one where the robot went psycho? I have almost no tolerance that for movies that blatantly insult the abilities and foresight of engineers. Hey guess what Hollywood, if you morons can think it up then a hundreds engineers already did and designed that flaw out.</p>

Threes?
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
WooHoo! It's a magic number.
To: TalonDJ
I'm calling it a night, too. I have to write reportsy stuff all day tomorrow. It's doubtful my first-day enthusiasm will last. Got most of the way through chapter 1. That's pretty good progress.
To: TalonDJ
Yeah, that one. I just get mad at those things because A. knowing something about AI, it's gonna be a lot longer to intelligent robots than the Mars missions and B. Asimov came up with the stinkin' Three Laws so many years ago, there's just no excuse to have a 'bot without them.

One of the things I like about Mission to Mars is they colored the Mars scenes according to the colors seen by the various probes we've sent.

One time I did a systems engineering analisys of how many layers of redenant systems you would need to implement a workable '3 laws' system. The result was pretty insane.
