The Hobbit Hole XXV - Fare you well! Fare you well!
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 10/15/2005 7:13:08 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Fare you well! Fare you well!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

That just makes it more impressive that you can spend time on 6 and still get the prize.

I'm gonna shoot for between 2 and 3k per day for the first week while I have energy, then 2k after that. I think I can be at 2k before lunch is over if I can just stop being distracted by "having to come up with whatever item it is she's stealing" or "what's the plan here anyway" details. I am beginning to wonder if winging it was such a great plan.

Feel free to ask us for hints. I am sure we can wip out stuff like, "She is there to steal the Toaster of Doom by having her friend Guido distract the guards with a herd of wild llamas."

How about an ancient manuscript that might have amazing secrets written on it?

That comes later, this is just a character-establishment chapter.

I was vague. I'm good at vague. I'll fix it if I rewrite.

Then maybe the "item" is vauge. No one knows what it is, except that it is valuable.

It's not important. What's the word for a not important item? They take the item to the guy who's buying it and he offers them the new job that will involve piranhas.

Just a quick note to let everyone know that the "official" Hobbit Hole knife count hit 1000 today.

That doesn't count the Extrema Ratio knives, EMT snips, GMRS radios, Quikclot, or Israeli bandages we've sent out from time to time.

Heh, if I use my real first name, I get Rita Buscaglione. If I use, as a first name, the one I generally go by, then it generates Allesia Berlusconi, even though I used my married name both times.

Yeah, now the evil mastermind will want them to acquire the map to the Nazi treasure. But my heroes are smarter than that so they'll turn him down. That's when he kidnaps the heroine's sister... see, I have a plot, it just isn't detailed.

You could even make it that he already kidnapped the sister preemptively. Depends on what you have in mind for scenes I guess.

By that I mean he did it and the heroine does not know it yet. He tells her after she turns him down.

In my calculator case I just found a 6 year old note with a plot outline for a story I never wrote. The funny thing is it is more detailed than my nanowrimo one.

Is it any good? The outline I mean. The stories I wrote that long ago were horribly written but some of the plots were ok.

No, the sister has to come visit the heroine before she gets kidnapped. It's to give Comic Relief. Sister does not know heroine is a catburglar.
