Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Fare you well! Fare you well!
New verse:
|
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I'm sure you are familiar with this... prayers fer Ken and Gail are appreciated...They have my prayers.
Now, how about passing around the hat for a Hobbit Hole house-warming/rebuilding gift when they decide how they're going to proceed?
To: HairOfTheDog
Very nice. Just had a good little chat. Got the official invite to their place for newyears.
To: HairOfTheDog; TalonDJ
I am also interested in hearing this... I have not yet been disowned though so it must have gone well.

Yeah, your friend's house looks like my sister's house! She said she never thought that at the age of 63 she'd essentially having to be starting over!
God Bless your friend. If he needs any help doing any work there, tell him to call Father Kitchin at St. James Parish in Gulfport. He has gotten together a team of a few couples and some other folks who have come down to help people get work done on their homes.

I don't think it stays permanently down at this level. It snows and melts. But then, I haven't been here for a full winter, so maybe I'm wrong...
But it does stick around higher up - we can always get to snow when we want it, once winter is underway!

I'm reading "The Little Leftover Witch" to the jedis. The final two chapters tomorrow.
I just LOVE the story and love how I got the book. I was asking a listserv about it because it was a favorite of mine when I was a child, but I couldn't find it and a lady on the listserv actually wrote me back and said "I just saw that book at a library book sale yesterday!" She went back to the library and bought it for me for 25 cents. I trusted a complete stranger with my home address and she sent it to me and wouldn't take a dime!
It's the hardback version, sixth printing, 1966.

have you talked on the phone yet?I started to write that... I keep forgetting that you two have already met in person at shootmoot.... so that takes a lot of the nervousness out of talking now, I'm sure.
My first phone conversation with ecurbh was ~soooooo~ awkward. :~D And this was after we'd been playing backgammon for some time.

It was still a little different chatting again on the phone, I think. But I know Shootmoot makes things a lot easier... definitely an important occurence...

Apparently it went ok! Of course I prepped Dad first. Didn't want him to chase Talon off, after all.
I'm pumping Mom for details, she may be more gossipy. Probably too late to hear from her tonight though. Guess the big test will be at New Years' when they actually get to meet him and vice versa. (I really hope he doesn't head for the hills...)

...his house got hit by surge, I guess? you got it... a 35' wall o' water will do that kinda damage....the live oak standin' and the house obliterated seems surreal...
no word on their plans...
Suzi: Will keep Padre Kitchin in the forefront of our minds as we get more info... our church is sending down crews and funds for the next 18 months...
muh folks is visitin', and me and mrsnad is hittin the sack... see yuh tuhmorrow...

I wasn't going to say "that's why we're doing all our talking before it gets to backgammon-level stages"...
