The Hobbit Hole XXV - Fare you well! Fare you well!
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 10/15/2005 7:13:08 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Fare you well! Fare you well!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

As long as there is peeekan pie all is good.

Ain't no such thing as pee-cans in the South. We gots puh-cahns, though.;o)

All my Girl Scouts know how to say the word properly because when they were doing their 'Cooking' Interest Project work, they had to learn to make foods from 'another culture'. The Troop Leader asked if I'd help out, (since Mississippi is such a foreign land to these Yankees) so I taught the girls to make Gumbo, Jambalaya, and Buttermilk Biscuits, and instructed themin the correct way to say the word 'pecan'.

I've never had mincemeat pie in my life! Mama always made Pecan, Sweet Potato, sometimes Pumpkin and always Lemon Icebox Pies, but never Mincemeat.

I LOVE Sweet Potato Pie, with just a splash of Bourbon in it. I make a Sweet Potato Souffle that, when eaten leftover and cold, tastes for all the world like Sweet Potato Pie without the crust.

I guess you've never eaten at a Shoney's.

Mom did mincemeat on occasion but with there was pecan and sweet potato to be had it was never very popular.

First one would be appropriate if we'd met at Entmoot, that was the Entmoot anime. Resulted in Rosie's van being renamed.

Second one has better characters though. Kaname is much less wimpy than Hitomi. And she smacks people with her paper fan.

I say "puh-cahn"... must be my Virginia mother's influence. Or possibly my English grandmother, that's the way she says it.

Anyway I don't care how it's called, just how it tastes.

Guilty as charged. :-)

I'd like to try one though!

Virginia, eh? Is that where your family get's Pecan pie from? Mom was wondering how a family in PA got that as a prime holiday staple.

I guess! My mom grew up in Northern Va and Dad grew up all over the place. I think Mom's still more what Corin would call a Yankee though.

Mostly it's a prime holiday staple because someone made the mistake of making it for me once :-D
