The Hobbit Hole XXV - Fare you well! Fare you well!
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 10/15/2005 7:13:08 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Fare you well! Fare you well!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Just because you can read minds... doesn't mean you have to open the book if you don't like the cover. :-)

Monitoring tools here still show my Miami office with no power / no connectivity, FWIW.

Mornin, mornin! It is NASTY outside today!! We gots rain and wind blowing about 20-25 mph out there, and they're expecting some gusts up to 40mph! There won't be a whole heck of a lot of leaves left on the trees after today!

Thankfully, other than taking Joseph to school, which I just did, and picking him up later this afternoon, I don't have to go anywhere! Today is Clare's day off from classes. I'm going to try to get some de-cluttering and cleaning done today so I can get a head start on getting ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Luke's class is decorating a pumpkin today and there's a pumpkin lighting on Thursday evening. Wife is the room mom, so ~I~ got to hollow out and carve the pumpkin.

I don't remember signing up for that.

Morning!

It's not Monday. Other than that, I haven't yet formed an opinion about the day.

Pointless meeting = time to think about your nanowrimo story :D

It is just cold here. About 33 and windy as I came in to work.

Have y'all seen those intricate Jack o Lantern carving sets? You get little tools and a CD from which you can print out elaborate designs. You look at them and think "I could never do that", but it's amazingly easy! You get the design, and you put it on the pumpkin and poke holes around the outside edges of the areas that will remain, then you take off the paper and just start cutting from hole to hole. I did one a couple of years ago that looked like a spooky tree with willowy branches, and another year, did one that was a coyote howling at the moon. They are such fun to do! If you don't have the chance to do it this year, pick up one of the carving kits after Halloween during the sales!

One of SirKit's friends from work used to have a pumpkin carving party every Halloween, and we'd take a bunch of the designs that we'd printed out and let other folks use them. There were some awesome looking pumpkins by the end of the night. We'd put candles in them, then take a picture of all of them on the family's front steps. That family has since moved back to Canada, so unless we want to host one ourselves, there won't be any more carving parties. Maybe when we get the addition put on....

My friends want to have a pumpkin carving Saturday. I keep trying to convince them that after we're done, we take them to the department and get on the roof and drop them in the empty parking lot.
