Still round the corner there may wait |

Home is behind, the world ahead, |

Thanks for letting us know Ruthy's OK. The storm was fierce, but luckily for them, it was fast moving.
Nope, only going to be in KC on the 16th and 21st, the rest of the time will be in Columbia. The test is 3.5 days long (eich), so I'll only have the second half of Sunday free. Testing on Sunday, double eich.
Good to hear y'all are ok! I was looking at the weather channel, and those rain bands are all the way up the East Coast! We're supposed to get some rain from Wilma starting late tonight and lasting til Wednesday!
We talked about it being fast moving, but she was still tired of it and ready for it to be over. She was peeking outside but winds were still gusting to 70.
eh, That makes the 10+ hour round trip seems not so worthwhile. Drat. Oh well, I don't like to take trips on consecutive weekends anyway.
Well...the girl that is helping me with the directory just emailed me and said basically she can't do anything she told me she could do. She's using a program called "Quark" and either doesn't know what she's doing or it won't work for what we're trying to accomplish...but my understanding is it's not going to work at all.
She's been telling me for weeks that it was going great...and today is the day it was to be printed up. We have until the end of this month to get the directory printed up before the print special ends.
Now I'm back to square one, for all practical purposes.
I'm sick. I'm just sitting here not knowing what to do.
Ruthy has called again, the storm is officially over now. She's been out to survey the neighborhood, lots of trees down, shingles missing, fences down, but not hers. She lost her gate, still doesn't have power, and things are kindof a mess, but not too bad.
She did say she had gotten good video before, during and after the storm and is going to try to figure out how to get it uploaded when she gets power back.
Well, she probably ~could~ have found a more obscure software to use..... maybe.
Is this girl affiliated with the printers? If so, you should get the special anyway. It's her fault this isn't working.
Well, I found ONE printer that can print from a Quark file and I was going to take it to him and get it printed up on nice paper...a real quality print, you know...and use it for a proof to copy at the UPS Store, which is running a 38 cent color copy special this month only.
She can't even email it to him and even so, she said some of the pictures are so screwy they won't print well.
She's trying to copy it to a zip drive (?) and get that to him, but apparently that won't take care of the picture problems.
I dunno. I told her to let me know if she can't get it to work and I'll find another way of doing it. She hasn't written me back yet.
I hate depending on other people. I intended to do this myself and figure out a way to do it when she told me she had this great "professional" program and could do it for me. I never felt comfortable, but I let her do it. I grew more and more uncomfortable when she told me she had to figure out how to use the program...
She really should have told you sooner. How frustrating.
Fabulous :~\
Yeah.
I'm amazingly calm. My brain feels kinda blank...like I haven't quite dealt with just how bad a problem this is! LOL
I've got 32 ladies that have ordered their pictorial directories.
I also have a friend who is aware of the problem and has a program called "Publisher" that she says can do the same thing. That would entail getting the pictures from the quark lady and getting them to her.
That's gonna cause hard feelings I'm afraid...
I don't see why it would cause hard feelings. Email Quark Lady and say, "we want to try a couple options. Please send me the pictures ASAP".
I think I will.
I have a bunch of the pictures...I actually took them. She took a few and a couple of ladies emailed pictures in to her and those are the ones she has, maybe a half-dozen or so.
They're on the other computer...I'm on the laptop and they're on the big PC so I gotta go log on to it and see who I lack.
Send the ones you've got so Other Lady can start working on them, then track down the other ones.
Publisher can possibly convert the Quark file, too. It might be easiest to start from scratch if it's really screwed up, but I wouldn't throw the baby out with the bathwater yet. Getting the file from volunteer #1 and looking at it would still be good. If she can function at all, see if she can do a Save As and convert it to something someone else has.
That's too bad that she didn't tell you before now. Was the deadline this week because you wanted to get it done before the next meeting? Might just have to wait another month. Just tell the ladies there were unforeseen technical circumstances. Hey, as long as THEY aren't having to do it, they probably won't mind having to wait a little longer. ;o)
Oh, ok, I just re-read the post and the mention about the print special. Any way the printer would extend the special knowing your technical glitches? Maybe the printer could recommend a solution.
Sounds like things worked out well for Ruthy; I'm so glad. I'm curious to hear how Ave Maria Univ. in Naples fared. Clare and I are going down there in a couple of weeks to see the school. They were right in the path of Wilma.
