The Hobbit Hole XXV - Fare you well! Fare you well!
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 10/15/2005 7:13:08 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Fare you well! Fare you well!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

More notes from the troops:

--------

Thanks again. I told my family what you have done for me and they would like to say "Thanks" for helping the troops. Your actions and those of all who support the troops makes it all worthwhile.

CW3 Melvin A.

-- and another email: -----

I recieved the knife a couple of weeks ago and I just wanted to express my surprise and gratitude. I've never owned such a nice blade before and I've already shown it to all my friends because I'm so proud of it.

Anyways I really appreciate what you guys are doing. Its no small gesture and that says a great deal. It's always nice to hear thank you for what we do, but when someone goes above and beyond any accepted form of thanks as you guys have done, it makes me feel both proud as well as connected. Because it seems like you guys really understand us and our needs.

I dont know any of your backgrounds but I'm sure most if not all of you have served in the military because it usually takes one to know one. Anyways now that I've rambled incoherantly for so long, I'm just gonna say thanks!

Brian

I've watched sunrise from a mountain I've climbed in the winter, 18' of snow, sub zero temps...

a few months later I was watching the same sun rise in a red desert sky...

I've seen the sun rise red over a deep blue ocean from the deck of a troop ship...

I've seen the best, and the worst in the hearts of men...

I been so scared I thought I'd pissed myself...

I've wept with pride for my flag...

s'been a helluva ride...

They do that, I guess. Why are they doing it now?

I think they did something to the track surface that made it more abrasive or something. One poor guy got only 19 laps out of a new set of tires.

Warthogs, gotta luv 'em. Had a project on a NAS on the east coast some years back. The A-10s would fly over the beach each evening, do a big bank and fly on in. Went out there when we stayed over a couple weekends and shot trap with some of the pilots.

To: HairOfTheDog; All

Mornin'.

I've been most productive this weekend.

After getting back from Becky's riding lesson yesterday, I cleaned the house, top to bottom. Swept and mopped floors. Even helped my mom with a bath.

So far this morning I've made coffee, sorted the laundry and detailed my car. Kids are the worst! I found melted chocolate bars in bags, enough wrappers to wallpaper the interior of the vehicle and a piece almost every brand of cereal on the market.

*laughing*

Worst of all, I have ~yet~ to get all of the pine needles from last year's Christmas tree out of my carpet. That stuff sticks to fiber like paste!

Alyson's dad should be dropping her off here any minute, so I'll be off to the races again. Laundry and baths and preparing for school & work tomorrow.

I was so exhausted last night that I literally passed out cold the moment I hit the pillow. And I snored like a beast, according to my mom.
