At A mere 5ft 3in, Prince has always relied on the highest of heels to give him a lift. But his penchant for platforms could have stacked the odds against him. At 47, he has been told he needs a hip replacement.
The singer believes years of strutting on stage (and energetic dance routines) have taken a toll on his joints.
"He used to wear high-heeled boots every day and doctors told him that may have contributed to his condition," a source told U.S. magazine the National Enquirer.

Eddie Van Halen also got a hip replacement a few years back as I recall.

My generation (I'm 52) is undergoing a lot of replacement surgeries these days. My brother and his wife, who are a couple years older than I, have both had their knee joints replaced -- they are avid skiiers. My brother has actually undergone surgery three times -- the first when he was in his early 40's. Part of the reason may be the availability of these surgeries -- didn't have them years ago, so now every time we have an ache, we have a joint replaced. Some of it may be that a lot of people in my age group were couch potatoes for years from maybe high school or college till their 30's or 40's, then they took up strenuous physical activity -- did too much in too short a period of time -- and wound up wrecking their joints at an early age. I know that's what happened to bro and his wife.
Yep, I fear Eddie is not going to be with us for too much longer at the rate he's going.
Wow... Eddie looks like George Carlin. I sure hope things turn around for him.
He sure is. I remember seeing Prince on the Rock and Roll HOF concert a couple of years ago doing a guitar solo on George Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." Just blew everyone else off the stage.
I saw Prince live once -- might have been during the Purple Rain period. I know I saw the movie of the same day and I agree -- he was at that time awesome. I think I missed his spiritual period.
Speaking of Lenny Kravitz (as you did in the last paragraph of your post) -- I will be seeing him on a double bill with Aerosmith the end of November in my neck of the woods. Should be a super show.
The only concert I ever wanted to go to was Prince & the Purple Rain Concerts. I was able to go in 1985 in Detroit. We were so loving his music that everyone was standing on their seats. His music hasn't been the same since.
LOL!!! There went another keyboard....

Snicker!
I can do barefoot, but I'm long past the baby stage. LOL
It could be worse. I have a neighbor who is about that tall and he finds it necessary to go real fast in motor vehicles (and on motorcycles) in order to compensate for his height. I don't expect him to live much longer. I just hope he doesn't take any innocent tall people with him.
Reminds me of Robert Blake in this film for some reason:
To be fair, that was all about a contract dispute and not any weird artistic statement. His record company essentially owned "Prince" and he wanted out, so he changed his name without really changing his name. Once the record company gave up, he went back to being Prince. You see the same thing with bands breaking up--a lot of the time it's less about "artistic differences" and more about getting out of a bad contract.
I just watched that a couple of months ago. It's a really good movie until about 2/3 in, then it just goes off the rails. But after "In Cold Blood" it's Blake's best movie.
Prince is very underrated as a guitarist.
Eddie has or had cancer sometime back. I guess none of us would look too good after a bout with the big C.
and a bout with the big D(divorce) .
Angus Young literally sounds like a punch drunk boxer from all his head bangin' over the years. The effect on the brain is much the same as being pounded in the head.
LOL.
Ooooh ah, ooooh ah
