CHICAGO - Its most famous team is the one that cheated, the one forever branded the Black Sox. Its most enduring image may be the outfielder doused with beer while standing against the outfield wall, or maybe the two drunken fans running onto the field to attack a coach.
Then, again, it may be the decades of losing. Not the romantic kind tied to some mysterious curse, but the kind that comes with simply playing badly.
As the Chicago White Sox take on the Los Angeles Angels for the right to play in the World Series something they haven't done since 1959 and haven't won since 1917 they may be the most maligned or just plain overlooked team in baseball history.

hehe yeah and Buckner was paid by Joe Torre to miss that ball in the 86 WS too!!
bastids!!
LOL
After the players saw the batter run to first, they ealized it was considered a live ball and ran and retrieved the ball from the infield grass, before the batter could run towards second...
More I read from you...More I realize that you are trying to pull our leg...No one can be this....
LOL
Chicago is the Third City now isn't it?
I think they mean the White Sox are the 2nd team in the city...
actually they could be the 3rd...
when I think of Chicago sports teams, I think of the Cubs and Bears....
Chicago acquired the name "Second City" because for many years it was second to New York. I checked census.gov -- 1890-1980...LA took 2nd place in 1990.
ohh...
well yeah I guess it is a 3rd city like that..
I thought Houston was bigger too
LA isn't really a city so much as a conglomeration of decaying suburbs built through annexation, a la Houston.
One thing is for sure: that play roused every Angel fan into near frenzy and it isn't going to settle down by tomorrow night - White Sox players won't be able to hear themselves THINK with all the noise they're gonna get from 1 bad play...and my guess is that the Angels will win games 3 and 4 handily. They came away from Chicago 1-1, without rest, without a break, and having rested in game 2 their #1 catcher and #1 center fielder (when I saw the lineup I thought they were conceding the game!)
