We stayed "out" of the war until late December 1941.
There were apologists and those who said it wasn't our fight.
George Orwell was also struck by how it was forbidden to be critical of Stalin's USSR during the war but it was quite acceptable to be openly critical of the US and UK.
Those are interesting cartoons, they make me think.
I think a lot of the peace activists just don't think that violence solves problems, rather than thinking our country should just be passive. They want to look for another solution besides war. No harm in that, I think. Who doesn't want to live in peace?
No harm in that? The reason we must fight is because much more harm will be done if we do not. Watching men like Saddam murder his own people is like watching a man on the street murder a friend of yours. Are you going to try to talk him out of it, or take action and stop him from doing it?

Appeasers are abject morons.
You'd think that the self anointed "intellectuals" would have long ago recognized our hierarchy and territoriality and learned to accept it. Disgusting as those ancient parts of our brains might be to some, they're too intertwined, and if surgically removed we would die.
Why hasn't the human species found Utopia long before now? It's not like Peace would depend on a technological age.
I've said this stuff for years and have yet to get any logical answers from a peacenik.
As weegee pointed out, there were plenty who pushed to keep the US out of WWII, other than (of course) to help Stalin by extending Lend-Lease to the USSR, as well as philosophically isolationist groups like the one headed by Charles Lindbergh, and of course the pro-Hitler fifth column movement.

Cooked with ham, they make a really good soup.
