Can Studying Turn Geeks into Casanovas?
ABC News ^

Posted on 09/30/2005 8:19:15 AM PDT by Millee

Go into almost any nightclub across the country and you'll see great-looking women and hungry men on the prowl, craving chemistry, connection — and a phone number. They're all looking for love. But the oldest game in the world can be brutal.

"Either you have it or you don't. Some guys are smooth, some guys aren't. That's it," said an attractive clubgoer in South Beach, Miami, named Kristi. "There's the losers and the winners." Maybe that's right, but there's also a movement afoot that says the art of seduction can be learned.

One of its students is Joel, a successful software engineer from Denver. He's clean-cut and nicely dressed, and has been practicing a scripted routine — learned in a three-day workshop that cost him nearly $2,000.

When "Primetime" co-anchor John Quinones asked him why he enrolled in the class, Joel said, "A woman would come up to me…and she'd be really interested, and I could see this, as soon as I opened my mouth, she… would suddenly start backing away, and [say] 'Oh, I got to go.'"

Joel studied at a workshop run by a man who calls himself "Mystery" — a kingpin in a new multi-million dollar industry where hundreds of so-called seduction experts promise love and romance to hapless Lotharios.

The gap between guessing and knowledge is often quite wide. ;o)

You have FOUND your calling....LOL! ;)

I think so...HitmanNY and I (and even pissant) could teach better than a lot of these jokers, that's for sure!

One of the guys who is a "guru" of mine these days used to be part of the seduction community and he has moved on to the next level, still using some of their tactics but doing it in such a way that he doesn't hurt women - or himself.

There is zero transmission of this kind of information from father to son these days - because the fathers are just as clueless as the sons. That's why the seduction community has gained so much underground popularity.

It's funny to see the major media starting to write articles on it with the publication of Strauss's book - clearly they don't get it and are trying to explain it to their readers as some kind of malevolent "backlash agaisnt feminism". It isn't - I'd call it "Male Reempowerment"...LOL! It's just that some of its practitioners are not good guys - they are out to get revenge on women for the way the feel they have been mistreated in the past, and are missing the whole point: that such treatment was their own fault.

I have never been prone to insult women to who I was attracted; that behaviour always struck me as being counter-intuitive.

It is...but it works very well on certain types of women.

Well talkin' the talk may help get the girl but can it keep her?

Pull up a chair, Baby, rap with the Blur

I remember a friend of mine in college telling me:
"No matter how good looking you think she is, just remember that somebody, somewhere is sick of her sh*t!"

It's a lot like fishing, you're usually better off throwing most of them back in.

I met one of my childhood idols and he said,
"You know we're going to do it - don't you!?"

Idol?!? ...How about raising the bar to admire somebody who'd marry you first instead of implying that you'd...? If I was a lady propositioned like that, I'd have slapped him. I hope you did!

Thanks so much for your viewpoint.

He was an idol before he made the comment.

I knew you looked familiar! I certainly hope you've done something about those callouses! (And next time, I'm only buying the beer that's on tap!)

Yeah,
Marriage can be punishment for all past sins (or at least that's the way it felt). ;)

A friend used to run one of these dating schools. A typical class session convened in a drinking establishment and went...

"UMMMMMmmmm! Check her out! Y'all watch now! Here," (hands off beverage to closest person) "hold mah beer and watch THIS...."

(Well, it was educational, sorta..)

Yeah, I knew the callouses were unappealing, but no one's been rude enough to mention 'em before. That's some way to treat Uncle Bill!
