Very good. Like I said it is pro-freedom, pro-gun and anti-liberal/anti-communist. It is a rare gem when it comes to movies.

Methinks if we are not going to explore we deserve whatever plague comes our way

I was surprised that a movie like that was ever given the green light..

Well, I just checked boxofficeguru.com for attendance figures and the site is forecasting a 10 day total (includes first two weekends) of $18 million with a comment that midweek sales had been disappointing. I think I will go and see it again this weekend, but not enough people are supporting a freedom loving, free enterprise, and pro gun movie.

You were surprised that this type of movie was green lighted. Unfortunately, if it does not pull out a profit, Hollywood will take the lesson that these values don't sell.

I have a feeling that the dvd sales would help the movie....

Only 10 million!? I guess the 80 million required for a sequel was asking a lot.

IIRC, the 80 million was for worldwide box office. Worldwide box office can easily double whatever Serenity earns in USA box office, so I don't think we should despair of Serenity sequels just yet.

Here is an enlightening review by Orson Scott Card, political commentator and author of Ender's Game. There are no major spoilers, either.

http://hatrack.com/osc/reviews/everything/2005-09-30-extra.shtml

A brief excerpt:

>>>

"Well, guess what.

It's great.

I'm not going to say it's the best science fiction movie, ever.

Oh, wait. Yes I am.

Let me put this another way. Those of you who know my work at all know about Ender's Game. I jealously protected the movie rights to Ender's Game so that it would not be filmed until it could be done right. I knew what kind of movie it had to be, and I tried to keep it away from directors, writers, and studios who would try to turn it into the kind of movie they think of as "sci-fi."

...

And this is as good a movie as I always hoped Ender's Game would be.

And I'll tell you this right now: If Ender's Game can't be this kind of movie, and this good a movie, then I want it never to be made."

>>>

Good review. However, the projected final box office total is $26 - 28 million (per Box Office Guru). Where are all the Firefly fans? We aren't showing that good SF sells.

What an excellent film...I just got to watch it on On-demand cable. My family and I are so hooked, I'm going out to by the Firefly DVD set this week.
