Cant a guy take a vacation without the nay-sayin ninnies of negativity taking over this place?
As the self-appointed optimist of this forum, I must say that I am more than a little P-Od over what I have been reading coming from the scared keyboards of some of you folks. You act as if someone stole your little Republican cookies and ate them in front of you.
Look, I know its not the best of times for Conservatives if you are concerned about spending or the protection of the borders. However, it escapes me why it seems impossible for some of you to take any note of the fact that despite everything you read and hear in the MSM today (including the Delay indictment) that we are winning on practically every measurable point.
Where is your confidence?
I make no bones of the fact that it makes me very happy whenever something occurs that makes liberals angry, sad, bitter or afraid, (which is true of them by default) , but liberal unease or unrest is not required for me to feel fine about the Conservative agenda.
It seems that whenever liberals have cause (no matter how stupid) to celebrate, it causes no end of angst and concern on this side of the aisle. Why is that? In fact I really enjoy the idea that liberals seem to think that they are playing a winning hand, because as long as they believe in that foolish notion, they wont do the things that they actually could do to gain some ground against us.
But they wont.
Why?
Because they are stupid, thats why. And the fact that they are stupid should be enough to allow most of you to sleep better at night, like me. Oh, you say the liberals are energized? Well, wake me when they get a clue, okay?
Ill begin to worry about liberals when they can actually propose a good idea for the country that does not involve raising my taxes, does not involve limiting my individual right to kill cute little animals and eat them, does not involve telling me what I can say, or who I can say it to, or is not about sharing the rights given me by the Constitution to non-citizens, or those who believe in two-penis marital bliss.
Oh yeah, Im so scared.
You know when Ill be scared? Ill be scared when Democrats understand that lower tax rates increase government revenue. Ill be scared when Democrats learn to love and appreciate the U.S. Military. It will frighten me when Democrats let Blacks off the plantation and let their children attend the schools of their choice with tax-supported dollars. It will frighten me when Democrats understand that their stupid little hybrid cars and eagle-killing windmills are not the answer to our energy needs, and begin to support drilling for oil wherever we find it in sufficient quantity.
Anyone heard a good idea from a Democrat (or liberal) lately? Lets listen, shall we
*crickets*
Nothing, folks. Nothing at all from these nuts.
But you do hear a lot of lies, dont you? Now, if they were winning, would they have to lie about everything, all the time? Would they need to be propped up by a compliant media willing to turn their every thought into a reported attack on our side, no matter how ludicrous the accusation?
What is worse than the negativity from some of you is the stupid idea that the President actually needs to get down in the mud with these losers and fight back. Nothing could be more dumb and idea, and nothing would make the Democrats happier than to have the President out their responding to their worthless agenda.
Think about it like this:
If someone were to grab a knife and point it at you in anger, you would have righteous reason to kill them, would you not? Now, what if that person, instead of a knife, were to point a toothpick in your direction, as though they were going to kill you with that instead? Would you kill them, or just laugh at them?
You see, much of what you folks percieve as Democrat knives, are actually just little Democrat toothpicks, that cannot really harm anyone. A poke might sting a little, but how much damage could it really do, before you beat the toothpick wielding assailant to a bloody pulp?
Ive said before, that the time to worry, is when the President is worried. Guess what, Freepers; he aint worried. Did anyone see any stress on the face of Tom Delay yesterday? I didnt.
Try to remember sometimes that there is a big difference between heat and light. Democrats and liberals have lots of heat, but no light, which is why they are always running into things, crashing and burning. They get nowhere, they get nothing accomplished, they only give themselves more reason to be the pathetic, angry, bitter, victims they enjoy showing you every single day.
For once, if you are one of those who think that Bush needs better PR, ask yourself if you think he needs that PR in order for you to feel better each day, or because he needs to win more fights against Democrats. Then, ask yourself how many fights against Democrats our President has actually lost? Democrats decided long ago that they cant beat either Bush or Delay, to their best course of action would be to try to get rid of them as soon as they can. Democrats intend to make tons of accusations in the weeks and months to come, all geared towards legitmizign their stalwart opposition to the Presidents agenda until they can find a way to replace him.
They are going to try to plant the idea in the populace that the Bush administation is corrupt and should not be trusted to lead. They intend to use that premise as an excuse to fillibuster the next Supreme court nominee (Luttig) and hold up every measure that they can to keep Bush from succeeding.
The Democrats are going to reach new levels of shame when they attempt to stop ANWAR drilling. It is going to be a fight for the ages, just you wait.
The point of all this, is that the only way that the Democrats can actually gain enough of a foothold to do damage to this administration, is if you negative bozos start parroting the liberals in your attacks on the President. If you are a finger-in-the-wind Republican, you are doing no one any favors when you fail to balance current obstructions and detours in the agenda with the unmistakable evidence that the Conservative agenda is still moving forward, winning victories all the time.
If you Freep solely for the purpose of sharing your insecurites with the world, just like a pussified liberal would do, I ask you to check yourself. If you cant sleep at night without sharing with all of us how you are more informed, more equipped and more able to fight this fight than the Bush administration, then dont just check yourself, check yourself into a mental ward too.
Must I remind you that Republicans currently control about 85% of this government, and that Liberals control almost NOTHING? Do you need a scorecard to tell you that Al Gore is sitting somewhere eating twinkies in the dark, and John Kerry is still looking for swiss cheese on his cheesesteak, while George Bush is having breakfast in the White House?
And when the MSM tells you a lie, are you going to get mad and gripe like a little bitch, or are you going to steel your resolve and understand that if the other side needs to lie, then they have already lost the dammed war?
I dont care if every day is a liberal flame-fest against the Conservative agenda, except for on election day. If it makes liberals happy to throw grenades at our side, let them come. Nobody ever one an election by screaming DONT VOTE FOR HIM! You win elections be giving people reasons to VOTE FOR YOU!
If the liberals ever figure this out, then we might have cause for concern.
But they wont, because they are stupid.
And if you think we are losing, then so are you.
Thanks and Welcome aboard.
Please add me to your 'Pukin Dog Rant' ping list!
You're right on, as usual!
Yeah! That's it!
When the liberals explode (any second now) it could wipe out half the life on earth and leave the rest to die in the ensuing iceage.
Here's the problem and I don't think it's negativity, but it's being realistic.
The President was pretty strong after the election. He had some political capital he intended to use. Now it's 11 months after the election, and that political capital has been squandered with not much to show for it.
This was a terrible summer for the President and the polls show that clearly. The polls are not wrong. He has alienated a lot of the electorate.
Things like the month-long working vacation in itself isn't problematic. My problem is that he seems to make it easier for his critics to score points against him rather than harder. The vacation created the impression of an out-of-touch president. We know it's not true, but perception makes reality.
When that town in Ohio lost 20+ reservists in a day, he failed to visit the town, which was a terrible gaffe. Again, he was squinting and seemed more interested in his vacation, and talking about 'freedom,' which is the script for two years ago but clearly isn't cutting it in 2005.
Bad press flowed from Katrina, and some of that was misplaced. Still, there is a shadow of cronyism in some of his picks. It came across that the FEMA head was a poor choice to lead that organization. While that's overstated, it's the impression that's out there. Saying that it isn't true, or not as bad as reported, or that the media will always paint this in a bad light may be accurate, but it's not helpful. The mandate is clearly to change the perception, and Dubya has been caught flat footed and seems unable (or unwilling) to do that.
Another thing is that he and his dad seemed to be working hard at rehabilitating President Clinton's image. Clinton's presence isn't welcomed: people remember the Clinton years as prosperous and uneventful. People remember the Bush years as status quo and violent. That's an impression he helped create by having Clinton lumbering around as his go-to boy in a disaster. Terrible.
Negativity is bad but being realistic is good. It's like Dubya rolled down his pants, leaned over and has allowed his political enemies to paddle him repeatedly with glee, while he has a strangely misplaced smirk on his face.
Dubya is a good president but he hasn't acted like it in 2005. Any other read of the political landscape just isn't realistic.
The best thing he has going is that it seems the dems have been unable to capitalize on his deficiencies. While his polls go down, theirs don't notably go up. That's just dumb luck, though.
You are added. Thanks.
No, it is negativity and you are guilty of it.
What's negative about it? It's all accurate. What does the President have to show for his political capital, which is now gone?

No one has more aplomp than Pukin' Dog, I always say. :)
I do believe you have created a new FR classic in "aplomp".
Any day I get to ream out a freakin' liberal is a truly great day...problem is, seems like every day is a truly great day!! Go gettem' Dog !!
Agree, except that Bush is not responsible for the spending, that's Congress' fault and had Bush vetoed anything sent to him, the republican Congress would just override his veto.
What we're seeing vis-a-vis spending is just the latest incidence of the "spoils of war" phenomenon. It's is the members of Congress that are betraying their "conservative values", not the President.
The issue is not whether Bush has been a good conservative (he has merely reacted to the political enviornment in which he has had to operate), it is whether or not the "good conservatives" have been good conservatives. The answer is "certainly not".
Hey, I'm a really classy guy...just sometimes my fingers get ahead of my brain. At least you knew what I thought I meant to say!! (and that's the idea of this anyway, isn't it?) :0)
I have to laugh when I see them saying "Well, Reagan wouldn't have done this." Bwahaha! I was a young liberal back then and was absolutely thrilled because I just knew that Reagan was toast during the first couple of years of his second term. I mean, even the conservatives hated him. (Little did I know that someday, we would name our daughter in honor of him. Ahh...adulthood.)
They always fear losing power because they subconsciously know that if they ever managed to achieve everything they claim to stand for, they would have a revolt on their hands. It's a vicious cycle that feeds on itself and makes them incapable of being magnanimous, gracious or pragmatic.
Brilliant. In reality, neither group really believes in the Republic or the average (aka sheeple) citizen and are fundamentally anti-democratic. The sad part is, they can't quite grasp that concept because they have wrapped it all up in super-patirot clothing, claiming that the founding fathers would be rolling in their graves.
We really DON'T know what the founding fathers would think of America today. I personally believe they would be disappointed in the character of many politicians, they would be disappointed in the degradation and federalization of the process...but I'm not so convinced they would be disappointed in the majority of Americans. But who knows and claiming to really understand that is just intellectually dishonest.
You're actually becoming very good at this. You've not only got the contents down pat, you've nailed the style as well. Reading it, I can hear the pauses for effect. I can see the moments when you would pound the pulpit to underline the point just made.
Very nice. Just one quarrel. The next SC nominee will not be Luttig. He's a good choice. But this one will be a woman. That will make her bulletproof against defeat or filibuster, just as Roberts' brilliance made him bulletproof.
That is not to say that Schumer, Kennedy and Clinton won't savage her. They will. That doesn't mean that the dim bulb from Searchlight won't threaten to lead a filibuster. He will. That is only to say that she will not be stopped by filibuster, and will be easily confirmed.
Why is that? Because a lot of Democrat Senators are facing serious challenges for reelection. They cannot afford to antagonize women by rejecting a well-qualified women who is nominated to the Supreme Court.
Again, the mathematical logic of your rant will play out. President Bush will win yet another hand, because he holds the higher cards. And all the hard-left Democrats will be able to do is whine, complain, and demonstrate their continuing irrelevance. Exactly as you say in your rant.

Classy and creative. :)
Where's the rest of the political capital? Roberts is a difficult choice for dems to vote against, and still 21 plus Jeffords voted against them.
If all that political capital went to getting Roberts on the Supreme Court, that's what is 'unbelievable' as you say.
I responded: I was bored after the second paragraph....so deal with it.
I took your comment above to be a flippant response to those who may choose to read your rant. I gave you a flippant response back to what I felt was a very long tirade, one I selected not to read (not because of what you may have said, but simply because it was so long.)
If you are going to make smart ass comments to those who may read your writings, expect to get some back.
Have to disagree with you on a few points:
1. Bush was strong? he won the 2000 election by less than 1,000 votes, and that after several months of messy court battles. In 2004, he won the popular vote by a 3% margin. Enough to win, but hardly a mandate. He has had to walk a fine line on many issues, and compromise on them, since the country is politically balkanized.
2. Bush has not "alienated" a lot of the electorate. When 40+ percent of the public is already opposed to your agenda and beliefs in such a visceral way, there is no way to put enough sugar on the agenda to make it palatable. If you suggest that since a significant portion of the population would oppose him no matter what he did that he should take advantage of republican majorities to ran through every conservative issue on the menu, then you're making a huge error in judgement. Bush may not have to stand for re-election, but another republican WILL have to. He has to leave a landscape in which his (hopefully republican)successor can continue to fight the battle.
3. As for making it easier for opponents to tag him as this or that, they would have done so anyway, and it makes no difference if he spent the summer in the White House, Crawford or Tahiti. The job of the party out of power is to regain power and they will attack anything they can sink their teeth into regardless.
4. Vis-a-vis Katrina and Rita: the President of the United States does not control the weather, nor does he tell the governor of a state or the mayor of a city what they should be doing. The fact that Louisiana is a disfunctional swamp is not a responsibility that can be placed at the President's feet, it belongs on the shoulders of the people who voted those incompetents into office. Bush does not control the National Guard until they are Federalized. Bush does not drive trucks full of relief supplies to areas where they are needed. He does not personally maintain law and order in the city of New Orleans. He cannot, with a wave of his hand, repair all the damaged housing and businesses.
4. Clinton can never be "rehabilitated". The majority of the public always knew what he was and was content to let it be so long as their 401(k) kept making money. As for Billy being on TV all the time, if you didn't ask him to be spokesman for Tsnami and Hurricane relief, he'd be on a podium someplace every day spreading lies on behalf of his wife. BJ has his hands somewhat tied when he appears to be a "member of the team".
5. The dems have not been been able to "capitalize on his deficiencies" because they are too entangled by their own, which are even more obvious. The issue is not Bush, although the other side keeps screaming about him, it's the abandonment of conservative principles because there is no consequences for doing so at the moment. Republcans are merely engaging in the division of the spoils of war. That they are being incredibly stupid about it is not GW Bush's fault.
If the GOP loses seats in 2008 and the presidency, they will have only themselves to blame for most of it. Bush is merely the visible face of the government.
I am so tired of hearing from fellow conservatives / GOP'ers that we are losing or that the Dem's are winning. That notion is 110% ridiculous.
We own the Presidency, the House, Senate, more Governorships and more State Houses!
The DEM's along with the MSM are dying a slow and pathetic death -
