Can anyone help me? I'm not very computer savvy.
Basically, I have a good computer with high-speed internet connection. Problem is, I have spyware, and badly. Almost every webpage I visit, I am bombarded with pop-up ads. The computer has gotten to where it freezes up temporarily as it struggles to bring up a new pop-up ad, which I don't even want up.
I downloaded "Total Access" from EarthLink, but it didn't do any good. I can't block all the pop-up ads, and I can't find a way to get rid of the spyware. I did a free spyware scan, and it determined I do have an almost dangerous level, but how do I get rid of it?
Anyone?
Now run the other spyware removers as well. And please understand that you recieved this via Internet Explorer in the first place...Most likely...So don't use it.
"Total Access" from Earthlink is pig vomit.
Make sure you reboot your pc and see if they come back.. I would also run a anti-virus and make sure you don't have a trojan in there reinfecting your pc after reboot.
ABSOLUTELY agreed!!!!
Right---I've got some rebooting to do, everyone, be right back.
Oh, get Firefox 1.0.6 (browser) and Thunderbird (email).
No IE ActiveX means far fewer problems. Internet Explorer is like a gigantic sewer pipe pumping crap into your hard drive. Same with instant messaging like ICQ or AIM. You'd might as well share needles with a Haitian queer.
The good thing about this is that I think we all learned some new things.
Great now here is some things to consider.
1. Use Firefox and install what I said on them.
2. Fix your hosts file.
3. Don't on click attachments.
4. Don't run software you don't know is clean.
5. Keep running spybot and adaware.
6. Get a router.
7. Do whatever else freepers suggest.

ROTFLOL
Isn't Firefox up to 1.0.7 now?
Right only use Internet Explorer when you have too.
Yes it is.
With respect, you're not doing it right.
Nesting like that doesn't look like the handiwork of manual typing input. Rather it looks like a piece of stupid software did it.
Yes, Firefox 1.0.7
Yeah sometimes they come back because they are part of a startup command.
Next step, remove the yahoo! toolbar.
CRAP.
I'm back, everyone. And, so-far, it's running smooth as Jessica's Simpson's legs.
This has gotten a tremendous response. Thank you all very much. FR rocks!
Is FireFox free? I'm on my way to get it.
Free as in beer and free as in speech.
You want it, and as has been corrected, you want 1.0.7 (the latest). After that, get Thunderbird (for e-mail).
Great stuff.
Yes and add all the stuff I told you.
