I'm here but the show hasn't started in Alaska yet so I'll be avoiding this thread until I get a chance to watch.
I'm in a time warp all my own.
Alaska!? I didn't know you're all the way over there :)
Did I miss it?
I have been working 65 of the last 72 hours -- I didn;t even know it was tuesday :(
If you're in the Eastern and Central time zones, yeah you missed it. I think you need to rest anyway :)
Dang! :(
Thanks s_j and I'll read up later on whatI missed.
I'll post CBS's official recap of tonight's episode tomorrow--it should fill in what you missed. It's much more detailed than anything I can write :)
Ma Paolo should be stuffed into the luggage carrier. Pa Paolo is a goon. The son's aren't too bad, but they're tainted. With any mercy, they're out next week.
WEAVERS WIN THE BATTLE; ROGERS SURRENDER
With many Teams making critical errors throughout this leg of the race, the Weaver family held off the surging Linz family at a Civil War reenactment on a chaotic battlefield in Virginia to claim victory. The Paolo family continued their bickering as they flirted with disaster, but in the end, they fended off an attack from the Rogers family who became the second Team eliminated.
REALLY BIG SHOE
Departing the Pit Stop in first place at 7:57 am, the Godlewski family opened their clue to discover they needed to drive 15 miles to York, Pennsylvania and find Shoehouse Road. Once there, Teams needed to find the Haines Shoe House and search the giant shoe for their next clue.
A quick stop for gas pushed the plucky sisters down to third place as the Gaghan family arrived at the Shoe House first, followed by the Schroeder family. Opening their clue, the Gaghans learned they needed to drive 110 miles to the nation's capital, Washington, DC. Once there, Teams would find their next clue at the reflecting pool in front of the United States Capitol Building.
MAP QUEST
With almost all of the Teams on the road to the capital, the Linz family discovered a crucial piece of information on their map. Most people, including the Aiellos, who had former Washington, DC resident David directing them, assumed the clue meant the famous reflecting pool between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. Alex Linz pointed to Nick that a second reflecting pool, located directly next to the Capitol, existed. This was the pool where Teams would find their next clue.
For one Team, the drive to Washington, DC proved disastrous. Navigator Denny Rogers unknowingly sent his son, Brock, in the wrong direction on the 30 highway, causing the Team to fall into last place. To make matters worse, Brock initially took the blame from his family for passing up the exit for 83 south, even though he insisted there was no exit. Denny tersely told his son, "Not seeing it and not passing it is two different things." After heading in the right direction, Brittney vindicated her brother when she realized Denny had sent them the wrong way. In response, Denny said, "Apparently,I was wrong. Only one person can do so much."
REFLECTIONS
Arriving in Washington, DC in first place, the Gaghan family dashed over to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool to begin their futile search for the cluebox, which was located at the Capitol Building Reflecting Pool. Soon, they were joined by second place Schroeder family as both Teams dismissed thoughts that a second pool existed.
Pulling into the nation's capital in third place, the Godlewski sisters knew where to go, searching the Capitol grounds for their clue. On the opposite side of the pool, the Weaver family spotted the box first to narrowly take the lead ahead of the sisters. The Weavers opened their clue and learned they had to find a limousine parked on 3rd Street and take a briefcase from an unseen contact. Then, they needed to take the briefcase across town to the Tidal Basin, located next to the Jefferson Memorial.
With the Weavers and Godlewskis battling for first place, and the Paolo family not far behind, Wally Bransen and his daughters joined the Gaghan family searching in vain at the Lincoln Memorial. After asking an official, the Schroeder family realized their mistake, but decided not to inform the Gaghans before heading to the Capitol Building.
SPY GAMES
Arriving at the Tidal Basin in first place, the Godlewski family encountered the first Road Block on THE AMAZING RACE. In this Road Block, one team member had to search the area around the Tidal Basin for a spy carrying a briefcase identical to their own. There were 50 people carrying briefcases, but only 10 were confirmed spies. Team members used the password, "The sky is blue." Anyone who was a spy would respond with the phrase, "The sea is green." After making contact, the Team member exchanged their briefcase for the spy's briefcase containing their next clue.
While Sharon Godlewski began the hunt for a spy, she was soon joined by DJ Paolo and Rebecca Weaver. DJ quickly became frustrated telling a seemingly endless number of people, 'the sky is blue,' to no response, but Sharon kept her sisters in the lead by finding a matching spy. Opening the clue, Sharon learned her Team needed to drive 49 miles into the Virginia countryside to the town of Middleburg and find Welbourne Manor, a historic antebellum home, for their next clue.
FIGHTING WORDS
With most Teams making their way to the Tidal Basin, the Gaghans, first to arrive in Washington, DC, continued their search around the wrong reflecting pool. After recovering from their driving mistake earlier, the Rogers family finally arrived in the nation's capital only to make another mistake by joining the Gaghan family at the Lincoln Memorial. Denny Rogers made the problem worse by telling Bill and Tammy Gaghan to read their clue, which prompted everyone to realize their mistake. Again in last place, Denny apologized to his family, saying, "I never should've told them. Very unfortunate you all have to pay for my mistakes."
The only Team rivaling the Rogers in making bad decisions was the Paolo family. Upon entering the city limits of Washington, DC, Marion wanted to stop for gas, but DJ insisted that they were fine. Then, after the Road Block, securely in third place, the family's quest for a gas station caused them to fall all the way to seventh place. To make matters worse, Tony and Brian gave DJ the wrong directions leaving the gas station, allowing the Bransen family to pass them as well, leaving them virtually in a tie for last place with the Rogers family. Blaming her family, a furious Marion raged, "None of you ever, ever listen to me!"
BATTLING IT OUT
In a close race for first place, the Weaver family pulled ahead of the Godlewski's arriving at Welbourne Manor to find a Detour. In this Detour, Teams had to choose between two military duties common during the Civil War: Heat of the Battle and Heat of the Night. In Heat of the Battle, Teams had to take part in a full scale Civil War reenactment and use stretchers to transport five wounded soldiers off the battlefield into the surgical tent. In Heat of the Night, Teams had to roll a barrel of oil to a workstation where they had to fill 20 oil lamps, transport them to a table, and light all 20 for the quartermaster. After finishing their task, Teams would be handed a regimental flag that they had to carry down a winding road to the Pit Stop for this leg of the race.
As the Weavers went off to fill oil lamps, the Godlewski sisters flexed their muscles by picking up soldiers strewn across the smoky, chaotic battlefield. After making a bold move by taking a shortcut, the Linz siblings arrived at Welbourne Manor in third place quickly transporting bodies in hopes of passing the two Teams ahead of them.
ALL IN THE FAMILY
While the Linz family worked well together well to pass the Godlewski sisters, who began to struggle with the physical demands of the task, they couldn't beat the Weaver family, who lit their twentieth lamp moments before the Linz family delivered their fifth body. After the quick run to the Pit Stop, the Weavers stepped onto the mat in first place, where host Phil Keoghan informed the happy family they had won a trip from Travelocity to the Fairmont Southhampton, Bermuda's luxurious estate overlooking a lush nine-hole golf course and the island's famous pink sand beaches. On their win, Rachel Weaver remarked, "I'm really excited that we finished first and my mom has done a really good job of stepping up to the plate and accepting the responsibility she's had to take on. I'm really proud of her." The Linz family gladly took second place while the Godlewski sisters settled for third.
CLUTCH TIME
While Wally Bransen struggled on the battlefield in the hot midday sun, David, of the Aiello family, took inspiration from what he saw, commenting, "It gives me goosebumps. Being a Marine and being out here in the middle of a Civil War battle carrying wounded, I can't even put it into words." In the end, the Aiellos and Bransens raced to the mat, finishing in fifth and sixth place respectively. After spending two hours at the wrong reflecting pool, the Gaghans took seventh place, happy to not be eliminated for their big mistake.
Arriving at Welbourne Manor in eighth place, the Paolo family began transporting soldiers across the battlefield only to realize the enormity of the task. Showing up right on their heels, the Rogers family also chose to carry bodies, but soon switched to filling oil lamps when Renee Rogers didn't have the strength to finish the task. A frustrated Brock accepted his family's decision.
While the Rogers gained ground on the faltering Paolos by lighting lamps, in the end, it wasn't enough as the Paolos finished in eighth place. After a very rough day, Brian only had compliments for his mother, Marion, saying, "She's a fighter. She complains like everything, but she comes through in the clutch."
THE LAST SURRENDER
Stepping onto the mat in last place, the Rogers family received the bad news from Phil that they had been eliminated from THE AMAZING RACE. Brock remarked, "I feel like if my family listened to some of the things I had to say, then we wouldn't have been eliminated. They will always be the same because they know what's right in their minds. It's frustrating. I hate it. I can't stand it." Denny added, "The one thing I've always tried to show Brock is that you can't get where you need to go in this life casting stones and blaming other people for your misfortunes." Acknowledging the tension between her husband and son, Renee said, "After this race, I'm the glue that will hold us together. It's extremely hard, but at the end of the day, we're still the Rogers family."
UNNNGH!
LOL--that's a toss up. I wouldn't want to be locked in a car with either one of them :)
I am liking the WEavers more and more. They seem to be solid. :) Thanks for the update.
I'm pulling for the Gaghans, too. So far they've taken every strenght challenge there is and have passed, beating other teams that have four adults (or older teens). I doubt the producers are letting them get away with anything but I do find it funny how the show doesn't focus on them at this point, instead focusing on the families that are fighting with each other. Makes for good TV.
How did the Gaghans do the task of picking up the soldiers so effortlessly?????? ALL the other teams that did this task ( including the sister & her 3 brothers ) were struggling & sweating, but the Gaghans barely broke a sweat .....and they essentially had only two adults to pick up the stretchers. I smell a bit of a "fix" here.....just doesn't seem plausible. I'll bet that when they started the task, the lightest "soldiers" ( some of them kids ) were "cued" to take a fall as opposed to the adults that all the other teams had to pick up.
WOW! We agree on something! Let's start the party! : )
Maybe so but the Gaghans were one of the few teams that successfully pulled the Amish carriage a mile and a half. The two parents may be very fit. Some on the show look like couch potatos.
Wanna make it 2 for 2?? About that F150....
If this was the case, and I think it is highly probable, then I am sure that these kind of details were worked out before the race with all the teams. It is obvious that something as physically challenging could not have included the small kids, so some kind of agreement would have to have been made.
Whatever, I think the Gaghans are a great team, those poor kids were searching for 2 hrs at the wrong pool but you do did not see any signs of bickering or fighting. They seem a strong united family and I want them to win. : )
ok, we do agree that my truck is the most beautiful truck ever, but it's still mine and you ain't having it! LOL
Go sweet talk with your wife into getting one! : ) We are still running it in, and getting 16 miles to the gallon! It's also VERY comfortable! : )
