NEW YORK - Jets quarterback Chad Pennington will miss the rest of the season because of a torn right rotator cuff, The Associated Press learned Monday night.

Pennington's injury was confirmed by a person with knowledge of his condition, but who declined to be identified because the team had not made an official announcement.

An MRI exam showed Pennington tore his rotator cuff in Sunday's 26-20 overtime loss to Jacksonville. The NFL Network originally reported the injury, the second time Pennington has had this tear in less than a year.

This would explain his errant passes yesterday. What a lousy break for the Jets.

Gabriel Heinze is out for the season for Man Utd..

Equally devastating, and just as relevant...

The jets could turn into "green slime" without Pennington. The Chadster has a knack for finding the open man and hitting him with accurate passes. There was a time when I though my Chargers made a bad move by passing on Chad and drafting Brees in the 2nd round. But Chad is looking a bit too fragile these last two years. Brees is shorter but seems to be a real solid guy physically in the Phil Simms mold.

The Chargers have a tough game next Sunday at New England but I think it's certainly winnable. When they execute well on offense they are really hard to stop. They have a lot of offensive balance with LT running and McCardell, Gates, Parker, and LT catching the ball. The question is whether we can play tough defense against Brady and Company. We haven't put enough pressure on the QB so far this year and I think Wade Phillips needs to devise some new blitzes for this week. How about Terrance Kiel firing between guard and tackle on that sudden safety blitz?

Baseball update: San Diego leads San Francisco 2-1 going to the top of the ninth with Trevor Hoffman coming in to pitch the 9th and attempt to shut down los Gigantes for the win.

Brees is a great QB, Purdue and Note Dame are my favorite college teams, I watched Brees a lot... He is good, you didn't miss out on anything by drafting him.

I hate them also. So do my Dolphins, which is why we gave them Fiedler.

Brees has turned out to be better than most people thought after 2003. Apparently Brees and David Boston could never get on the same page in 2003. But when Gates emerged and McCardell replaced Boston in 2004, Brees finally had confidence in his receivers and started to throw the ball earlier and avoid the INT's. QB's always get the credit or blame but receivers and the O-line account for half of their success.

As a life long Jets fan I can't say that I am surprised one bit. This team, as any other Jet fan could tell you, seems to be cursed. They can never get a break. Every time they are on the cusp of having a Super Bowl caliber season the wheels completely fall off (see 1999: Vinny Testeverde).

I think its pretty safe to say that Chad Pennington's career, at least as a starter, is unfortunately over. It is hard enough for a QB to come back from a torn rotator cuff, in fact no NFL QB has ever successfully done so, but to come back from the exact same injury (in less than a year) twice is as close to impossible as you can get. He didn't have a strong throwing arm to begin with before the first injury either. How much weaker will his passes be with 2 rotator cuff tears.

Brooks Bollinger, the 3rd string guy, will be the starter now. Hopefully he will turn out to be the Jets Tom Brady - his career as a starter began due to an injury to Drew Bledsoe. If not, I would be willing to see the Jets tank the rest of the season and finish 1-15 so they can at least get a guy like Matt Leinart in the draft. Maybe they can get him and he can be the next, next Broadway Joe.

Notre Dame is a good JV team. Watch USC and see the varsity.

I Wonder if you were saying that at halftime against Oregon... What was Oregon ranked again?

The home field and emotionalism gave SC a problem. But they proved their worth. It was kind of like the last presidential election........

Believe me, I'd rather see UCLA doing that well; or Air Force. The only team I like to see losing is Nebraska; I just have fun with the rest. College football is the BEST.
