Left-Wing idiot Viggo Mortensen of PBS now

Posted on 09/26/2005 1:56:41 PM PDT by tdice7

Is anyone else watching this hollywierdo make a complete ass of himself? Probably the most ignorant psuedo-intellectual lib I've ever seen.

"Wasn't he in a horror movie called Ghostbusters?"

Not sure about that, but I think B*ttbusters would be more appropriate.

I loved the LotR movies... But I thought Viggo/Aragon always had this pained look on his face like someone suffering severe long term constipation.

He already did the "No Blood for Oil" tour when he was on Charlies Rose' show with Peter Jackson and Elijah Wood. I think he likened Saruman to G.W. Bush at one time.

He was only barely adequate as Aragorn IMO. He did well as "Strider" in film one, but never reached heroic dimensions in the later films, IMO. The Two Towers was the weakest film IMO because it wasted a lot of time on the whole Aragorn self-doubt thing, and a silly subplot suggesting that Aragorn might have died (which fooled no one). All in all, I loved the films, but not because of the Viggster. Personally, I think there will be little career for him after LOTR.

Another courageous cue-card reader standing up and boldly
repeating what every other BB-brain in Hollywood is saying.

But he's destined to become King of Gondor...

He used an illegal war against the innocent kingdom of Mordor to gain power. For the oil of course. There is no Ring. That was cooked up by the real power broker in Gondor, Gandalph. ;-)

He even said that Bush was as evil as Saddam Hussein

I would be offended except he's Hollywood. Fruit flies have more intellectual capacity.

I'm really glad there wasn't an article here, so I wouldn't have to decide not to read what that idiot might be saying!

Mr. Mortensen needs to be reminded that entertainers and prostitutes are on the same level. They both give you a certain amount of pleasure in exchange for money. That's as far as the relationship goes. No self-respecting person would ever be seen in the company of either an entertainer or a prostitute.

I liked the movies, but had several complaints about them. One was Faramir, who was stupidly made into a Boromir clone instead of a complete contrast to his brother as in the books. Another was Gimli, who was made into a one-liner joke instead of the rather complex role he plays in the books. Another was Aragorn, who was made into a typical Hollywood style pretty boy instead of a strong, kingly aristocrat in disguise. Another was Merry and Pippin, who were also played for cuteness and laughs without any concept that they both belonged to proud ancient families in the Shire. Another was Theoden, who remains a decrepit fool for far too long, instead of recovering his majestic heroism as in the book. Another was . . .

Well, most of these problems arose because the movie was too Hollywoodish, too modern-egalitarian, too ignorant of the heroic world of the Anglo-Saxons on which Tolkien drew, with NO IDEA of what it means to be a noble hero--stress on nobility, honor, duty, and knightly courage. The director was pressed hard by Tolkien fans to be true to the books, but he only partly succeeded. Where he departed from them, it was always for the worse.

Actually, it's not entirely a joke to say that Aragorn plays a minor role in the movie, because he does. He never really rises to the challenge.

I really enjoyed the movie "Hidalgo". But now I have more respect for the horse actor that had to do the real work. Some men portray cowboys like they should be. Some make us look like irresponsible drunks.

He's pretty hunky but he does speak with a nasal annoying voice. Fortunately, they didn't give him a lot of lines.

Exactly! You forgot only that Aragorn looked like he combed his hair with a pork chop (and that was AFTER he was supposed to be cleaned up). His eyes are too vulpine for my tastes, and he has that unattractively weak chin and mouth (that I now know spouts unattractive things, LOL!). Just think what James Purefoy, to name just one example, could have done with this role!

Just so. Aragorn is supposed to look a bit ragged and disheveled when we first meet him, because he has been wandering in the wilderness and he is exiled royalty in disguise. But beneath that he is strong, handsome, and kingly. The idea of Viggo Mortensen looking kingly is laughable. He looks like a typical Hollywood narcissist in love with himself and certain that the more he dresses down and disorders his hairdo, the more his fans will swoon at him.
