Rafael Palmeiro's baseball season is over, the Baltimore Orioles told him Friday, the result of a positive test for steroids that severely tainted his remarkable career and proved to be too big a distraction for his teammates to ignore.
"He won't be dressing for the rest of the year," Orioles executive vice president Jim Beattie said. "We felt it wouldn't be appropriate for the organization."
The abrupt end to Palmeiro's season came one day after it was learned that he cited a vitamin he received from teammate Miguel Tejada as possibly causing the positive steroid test. The Orioles said Major League Baseball absolved Tejada of any wrongdoing.

Good-bye, Palemeiro. The only way he will get into Cooperstown is with a ticket.

I can't believe he tried to throw Tejada under the bus.
Good riddance.

Good! One gone one to go (the other being the one I hate 100x more- a nasty man who plays for the Giants)
I only wish he could get banned before he catches Ruth

Unless he gets 95 wins as a starter, and pitches over 29 consecutive shut out innings in the World Series, he'll never catch Ruth. [And has he stolen home 10 times?]

I hope so too, the cheat.

He wont catch Ruth without Steroids, No one ever has. Even when one does catch Ruth they havent done spit, no one will ever match his total of records in the amount of time he made them.

I'm hoping his tell-all includes a chapter on how that pesky B12 vitamin mutates into testicle-shrinking, home run creating growth hormone.
I do have to ask though--why inject the B12, as Tejada admitted? I take it in pill form. Hope it doesn't turn into dianabol....

Like hell they did! Listen, I'm from Baltimore, and I live ten minutes by car from Camden Yards. I've been to 30 Oriole games so far this season. The Orioles went on their first major losing streak right around the time of Palmeiro's test, not the annoucement of the result. I believe (and I freely admit that I have no "inside" knowledge of this, and it is pure speculation) that the team knew that he tested positive before the general public knew, and that it was a distraction. Now, as far as Miguel Tejada, for Palmeiro to impugn the character of Tejada, who has become "Mr. Oriole" after the retirement of Cal Ripken, is just deplorable. Anyone who watches Tejada knows he has too much love for baseball to do something like that.
I am sad to say that I had previously cheered Palmeiro, and bought into his lie that he was a man of integrity. Now, when Jose Canseco names players, and tells of instances of steroid use in baseball, I won't question his motivations and credibility. This situation with Palmeiro proves Canseco's credibility.

And to think I liked the guy when he played here in Texas.Throughout his career he had the reputation of being a stand-up guy. It's shocking how quickly that has all turned to ashes.
