OK...I need Freeper help cause I am getting no where with my docs office nurses.
I have been scheduled for bloodwork on Monday and was told by my doc to get off all meds except my allergy meds a week prior to the bloodwork. Well, to make a short story long....I started having dizzy spells about 3 days ago and had an appt. with my allergist anyway and all he did was change my meds. Now I am wondering if these are ok to take. I also have to take Loratab from time to time for my back...that is the main one I am worried about.
Is there a med website where I can put in what test I am taking and see what meds I should not be taking prior????

Any help is GREATLY appreciated. I don't want these tests screwed up because I didn't wait long enough after taking meds.

Skip the nurse and talk directly to the doctor. Explain the the allergy meds have changed and is that still okay.

call your doctor's office and ask to speak to the supervising nurse and tell her the full detail of the problems you are having....she will get the doctor's advice

Don't operate heavy machinery, or drive, or become, or plan to become pregnant.
Everytime I go to the doctor they are pushing more pills on me....just don't go.

Pharmacists can be a good source. Also, give www.WebMD.com a try.

I have a prescription for 1/2 pint of Wild Turkey 101 per day. I was on Jack Daniels but it wasn't strong enough and I had to take over a pint per day.

Call (or go visit) the lab, not the doctor's office. I've never heard of being pulled from meds for blood work.

The best thing to do is to pull up the prescribing information on each drug. You can do this on any search engine. You may even have the package insert yourself.
Look for the section called Laboratory Tests. I think it is usually after the medical side effects.
I have my doubts that an occasional pain killer would interfere with a lab test but I have no expertise in the matter so I should shut up.

The doctor who told you to stop the meds needs to be in touch with the doctor(s) who prescribed them.

As a nurse (ER), I will say this: without a full knowledge of your health history (which is confidential), nobody can give you definitive advice. Even then, a nurse cannot give a medical diagnosis, and cannot prescribe or withdraw medications. It is out of the nurse's scope of practice. The exception is a nurse practitioner. Health care is a consumer-driven thing. If you feel that you are not getting the care or answers that you should be getting, I suggest first that you insist on seeing your doctor about the situation. If you still don't get a satisfactory answer, get another doctor. That said, I move on to the issue of getting information for yourself via the WWW. Information is great- if used carefully. I see dozens of patients a year who darn near kill themselves by self-diagnosing and ordering meds online to treat themselves. (One patient self-dosed Prednisone, 100mg/day, for a year and then stopped without tapering. She is now a train wreck.) There is a reason why licensed medical professionals go to college for years>/em> to learn pharmacology, pathophysiology, chemistry, and medical/surgical intervention.
