Yesterday on his radio show, conservative talk host David Gold said the proposed massive federal spending for Katrina "relief" is a TIME OF TESTING FOR CONSERVATIVES. Do they really believe in small and efficient government - - or will they accept socialist-scale big spending as long as it's proposed by a Republican president?
Gold said he was surprised and disheartened to find many posters on FreeRepublic.com making excuses for the huge proposed spending. Bet they'd be sounding a different tune if Clinton were president and he had proposed it!
As I listened to the President's spending plan, I was dismayed at the scope of it. Low interest loans to rebuild is one thing. Breaking the bank is a matter separate from doing the right thing.
Pull your head out and deal with reality for a change instead constantly looking for excuses to whine about Bush. WHAT do we do to rebuild after the worst natural disaster in US History Chamberlinbuff? Just tell 3 states to go screw themsleves because YOU don't want to actually DO anything because YOUR comfortable little nitch isn't effected? Wonder if it was YOUR state that was devestated if you would be so gung ho to impose your absurd notions of social darwinism on these people. BTW Chamberlinbuff, how many votes do you think your "DO NOTHING" plan would get in the US Congress? What do you think "Do nothingism" will do to Republican electoral chances in 2008? Try to actually THINK for a change rather then desperately grasp for the latest excuse to whine about Bush.
Non-defense spending, and spending not including New Orleans, is out of control, and is worse than the democrats ever did. It's simple fact.
Not all of us have been supporting this latest excuse for taxpayer rape.
"Freepers are an argumentative lot- The only reason this place works at all is that everyone does not go nuts on the same day."
I think you should make that your tagline.
I actually saw a freeper snipe at another one last night because he posted a government weather bulletin in caps, as they write it.
He broakcasts from KSFO AND streams on SAT and SUN for those of you who need good conservative talk 7 days a week.
Both?
You people really would rather whine then DO anything. Have fun being politically irrelevent the rest of your lives. Actually WIN an election and then maybe we will listen to your absurd nonsense.
Freepers are an argumentative lot.
NO WE'RE NOT!!! ;-)
Owl_Eagle(If what I just wrote makes you sad or angry,
Yes we are you wanker.
He was pretty interesting in that he hosted a chat room during the show and would interact with posters now and again.
He's also a FReeper, as is his wife.
Let's face it: the pathetic failure of 1960s housing and poverty "solutions" was, at least in part, due to the lack of INCENTIVE and OWNERSHIP. People were given a free ride with little or no responsibility.
Hopefully Bush's Katrina experiment will prove to be a good laboratory for turning this failure around. When people have a stake in their future, they take care of it...when they are on a never-ending supply of government services, they don't.

The Port of New Orleans and WHY We Must Rebuild!
*shrug* He is a FReeper.
I want to see the details first, I think the number of 200 billion being tossed around is just pulled from the air based on what is actually needed, when you factor in private money, insurnace, etc. what are we spending this 200 billion on?
the more I see of this, I worry we are falling into a trap of losing the fiscal responsibility issue (including tax policy) to the Dems totally. not good at all.
Reminds me of the facade sets in Hollywood, look nice up front, just dont look whats behind the facade.
I think the point is this: WHY DO WE ALWAYS NEED FEDERAL TAX DOLLARS TO RECOVER FROM A DISASTER??? Why did we need federal tax dollars to recover from 9/11? Federal tax dollars to the families of 9/11? Federal tax dollars to bail out the airlines? And now federal tax dollars to rebuild after a hurricane. The locals/states and INSURANCE companies MUST foot most of the bill. We have it all backwards.
It's astonishing, and rarely gets mentioned, just how fast the government has grown over the last 15 years or so, i.e. since Reagan got out of office. Perhaps because we've always complained about growth in federal spending, but it's gone exponential since Reagan, so much so that there doesn't seem to be much hope of reining it in.
There are a lot of spittle-tossing FReepers, so that's not necessarily a compliment for a talk-show host....
