Good Monday morning, all you FReeper baseball fanatics....Two weeks left in the season, and just about everything is wide open...so let's begin...
That's all I needed.
Thanks for the tip
Thanks, ElTianti, for the parking advice! Running out the door in a few minutes... GO SOX! :o)
I am predicting that the Indians will have the best record in the AL, and by virtue of the AL's win in the ASG, home field throughout the playoffs. The chase for the WS ring will go through Jacob's Field.
Final records:
CLE: (3-0 @ KC, 2-1 vs TB, 3-0 vs. CHA): 98-64
BOS: (2-1 @ BAL, 3-1 vs. TOR, 2-1 vs. NYY): 95-67
NYY: (2-1 vs. TOR, 1-3 @ BAL, 1-2 @ BOS): 93-69
LAA: (1-2 vs TB, 2-2 @ OAK, 2-1 @ TEX): 92-70
CHA: (0-3 vs. MIN, 1-3 @ DET, 0-3 @ CLE): 92-70
Gotta tell you..the NY media is making a HUGE push for Mariano to get the Al CYA....which is pure BS..your guy should get it hands down...
The NY media can kiss my lumpy white ass.
Gosh I hope you're right.
But I won't make any predictions....it cuts down on the potential for disappointment AND delays until later the thrill of fabulous performance.
Sweeping KC and CWS and 2-1 against TB? That would be SCHWEEEET.
The Tribe didn't even have a winning season last year (80-82). Just dayum.
Decided to go last night...a good friend had invited me...after several of you had convinced me I should attend..and all in all, glad I did...we go to about 10 games a season..we have the weekend day game package...night games are just such a late schlep...but this was boy's night out...
Took the train into Grand Central..ate at Michael Jordan's..at the bar..the one pound sirloin burger..fries AND onion rings...two Bass..then hopped the subway out to Shea..got there about 10 minutes before first ball..
very small crowd..I'd say less than half-full..we had great seats...3 rows behind the Mets' dugout..
Pedro was good..but I think the complete game outing last start took something out of him..he pitched 5 innings, but only had one K.. The "Pedro" heads in the stand are very funny up close...Willis was unbelievable..you could hear the fastball "POP" into the catcher's mitt..
Two best moments for me...
When Reyes singled, everyone at Shea knew he was gonna steal second..more people are watching the runner than the pitcher..from our seats it was easy to see both..so you could sense the timing..see Reyes flinching...Willis does a superb job of holding the runner..Reyes was out easily, on what was in fact a bad throw from the catcher..heard on the radio after that only ONE runner had stolen on him in 30 something attempts this season...unreal stat...
Other revealing moment was when Piazza pinch hit..think it was in the 7th inning...He gets a big hand when introduced..and the crowd is amped when he gets ahead in the count 2-0....Willis' NEXT 3 pitches..all fastballs..93-95 MPH by the scoreboard radar gun..threw it by Mike all three times...( and this was after 90 pitches, or so..) Piazza wasn't even close..this was the last time I'll ever see him in a Mets' uniform..another reason I'm glad I went...but not sure anymore if he has anything left for a season or so as a DH in the AL... might be better if he retired...to avoid embarassment next year...
Here's a wild stat you you all...just checked the boxscore ..Willis' BA is .250..Piazza's is .257...
Haven't seen Carpenter pitch in person..but Willis, especially if he gets one more win..may deserve the NL CYA..holding runners..only ONE successful steal..superb hitter..great fielder...may well give him the edge...interested to read SCALEMAN's take on it..
So, happily for me..one of the guys lived in Brooklyn Heights..but had been in LI that day for business..so he'd driven..so we got to ride back to Brooklyn..game was short..little over two hours...so we decide to go to Junior's for dessert...I'd only had three beers at the game..so I had the cheescake..humongous portion..coffee, and a glass or port...and bought a whole cheesecake to take home...hopped in a cab to midtown...and caught the 11:15 train home...
So, I owe it to you who incouraged me to go..nay..insisted I go..and that includes the 10 EXTRA miles I will have to run this weekend to atone for it...
See #347
How many more starts will he have? Has the rotation been set for the final week.. Which game in the WhiteSox series will he pitch?
I wonder who the Cubs will blame this year???
Cliff Lee? Probably two. I dont' know which CWS game he'll pitch. I think it's too soon to tell.
Go easy on the ganja, will ya?
My predictions:
Cle--97 wins
Chi- 95 wins (they will win 1/3 vs Twinkees, 2/3 vs DET and 1/3 vs Cleveland)
Wanks-95 wins (asking too much to have them drop 3/4 to O's)
Bos: 93 wins--This is a .500 team right now
Nomar Garciaparra.
Good for starters...but they have so very many to pick from!!
Maybe a "top ten" list would be better??
Who else?..you have TWO CYA candidates? (g)
Other revealing moment was when Piazza pinch hit..think it was in the 7th inning.
Any truth to the STL rumor that Piazza removed the red cross from his helmet after leaving STL? Rumor was he thought it looked too much like a target.
Haven't seen Carpenter pitch in person..but Willis, especially if he gets one more win..may deserve the NL CYA..holding runners..only ONE successful steal..superb hitter..great fielder...may well give him the edge...interested to read SCALEMAN's take on it..
He is a great pitcher and he makes the Pfish very dangerous in a 5 game series. He's why I didn't want to play them in the first round. You could conceveibly face him 3 times in a 5 game series if they get desperate. As for the CYA I really don't know how that's gonna shake out. It's gonna depend on the 'voters' and STL doesn't have as many reps as some of the other areas such as Chicago, NY etc.
Glad you went and had a good time. That's what MLB is all about.
In the event of CHA, CLE, BOS, and NYY all having identical records, there will be a play-in 163rd game on 10/3 between CHA and CLE at CLE and between BOS and NYY at NYY, followed on 10/4 with a WC play-in between the two losers at an undetermined site.
with a WC play-in between the two losers at an undetermined site.
Maybe they could play it at Wrigley just so the Flubs fans could see what post season play looks like.
I'll try to get an update on the odds of that happening ..... should be easier now that everyone has the same number of games remaining. Dang it ... except for the Indians that is.
