Word For The Day, Friday, September 16, 2005 - A Half-baked Tribute To Miss Xenalyte

Posted on 09/16/2005 1:49:00 AM PDT by Argh

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of four "Words for the Day".

1. tenebrific [te-ne-BRIF-ic, adjective, from Latin tenebrae, meaning darkness]

1. gloomy

2. causing gloom or darkness

3. Sometimes used poetically to mean "sad"

2. lachrymose [LAK-ri-mose, adjective, from Latin lacrima meaning tear]

1. given to tears or weeping: suffused with tears: tearful

2. fit to bring tears or induce mournfulness: dismal, melancholy

3. lugubrious [pronounced luh-GOOB-bree-yus, adjective, from Latin lugere, to mourn]

1. Expressive of, marked by, or giving rise to grief or sorrow: mournful; especially exaggeratedly or affectedly mournful

2. Disposed to gloom: dismal

4. saturnine [SAT-er-nine, adjective, from Latin Saturnus meaning Saturn, perhaps related to its distance from the sun]

1. Born under or influenced astrologically by the planet Saturn: slow, sluggish

2. Of a moody or surly character: morose, sullen, mournful

3. Of or related to lead or lead poisoning

Example sentence:
Later. Maybe.

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using one or more of the Words for the Day in one or more sentences.
The sentences must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

It is a good thing your SIL can send you her list-having to rely on mail order stuff sucks. Since we moved out here, I can't find a source of beeswax to use in making my massage/body creams less far away than the place I used to get it on the other side of SA from where we lived-since that is now over 44 miles away, I have to get it mail order from the internet-someone told me that there is a health food store in Kerrville that carries it, but I haven't had a chance to go there yet.

Our chow used to suffer from low self esteem if the kids or one of us laughed at him after he had gotten his bear clip for the summer-he would march into the kitchen and under the breakfast table-I can just see Loosh's face when xsteen makes fun of his ears...

We don't have HBO or any of the movie channels. Just basic. But I listen to Rome sometimes during the week. ;)

Jim Rome, that is.

They played VERY well SG - really - excellent game. Can't say the same for OU - they played poorly - it was closer than the score looks until the last quarter - but OU had a lot of errors and penalties -

Mixed feelings: I don't really mind TT winning (unlike tu - who could lose 199-0 and have their band bus get flats in 18 tires - and I'd still be roooting for the two-point conversion against them), but I'd rather they didn't quite win by that much!

Congratulations are in order, Xena! Are you marrying a FReeper?

Thought of you on our vacation. Only brought sandals and sneekers. I got bug bites on my legs, and couldn't wear nylons. That's agains Xena's rules for short skirts!!! With sandals you must be barelegged.

FReeping here in bed whilst Cyber is bringing dinner. Life is good, and it will be good for you!

I don't know if Xenalyte will have an official photo thread or not, but here is a sample as the happy couple dances the night away.

Love that song, Leni! My Fair Lady!

So Flyer and Xenalyte got married, but then how did he take the photo? I'm so confused. Did Xena marry Eaker?

We got back from a three-week vacation last week, I was up to my ears in stuff to do, so I missed all the fun and stuff.

Hi, Slip......long time no sea!

Don't know the answers to your questions. Perhaps Xena will be back with plenty of bridal details (I love 'em) and some nice photos.

They are probably still dancing (on air).
