"Goodbye, farewell and amen"
Life's changes are always such that you never expect them, and they take a minute or three to get used to when they occur.
My life is taking a turn now that is forcing me to give up writing Ramblings' Journal.
I've accepted a new position that will preclude me from continuing my writings here. So I'm pulling the plug on R/J in order to focus on the new opportunity that has been placed before me.
Contrary to the opinions of others, I'm not running for office (I don't have the patience), nor am I joining a monastary. But I am turning the page on this chapter of my life, and moving forward. I'm very thankful for the friendships I've developed as a result of the blog, and I'm still going to be around -- you never know when an e-mail from me or a note in your comments section will show up to jab you or give you a thumbs up.
I want to say a special thank you to my Conservative Brotherhood bretheren, and encourage you to take a look at their blogs -- they are each fantastic writers in their own right. Their views are varied and they are each outspoken in their own ways. Their work is beginning to show up elsewhere, which makes me both happy and proud to know them.
The other blogs I've participated in -- Blogcritics and The Dead Pool -- are both worth your time and your thoughts. (Laurence, I'm still in the pool, even though I don't have a bunch of points. And Eric, I'm sorry that I hadn't had the opportunity to do more critiques in the past.)
A huge thank you to the Mu.nu community -- they've been incredibly supportive and fantastic. Pixy, you're the best.
I know I'm forgetting folks, and I apologize to you in advance.
I've asked Pixy to pull the plug next weekend.
Life's changes happen all the time, and for reasons known and unknown. All I can do is to step out on the path that God has lain for me, and know that He is at my side during my journey. I'm also happy to have my wife and my kids with me - they help keep me grounded. After twenty years (it'll be twenty years in a week and a half) of wedded bliss, I'm certainly happy.
Thanks again to everyone. God bless you all, and I'm sure we'll see each other 'round the 'net.
'Bye.
Thank God you and Michael are back! Without the two of you FR is much less valuable and interesting. Hope the idiots leave instead.
Then it is up to us who really DO care about freerepublic to have the CHUTZPAH to make a few changes ourselves, to be vigilant without becoming vigilantes, to express and assert ourselves as "eloquently" as do the more vulgar-minded and knuckle-dragging among us. I really believe, for example, that we can have open, frank, intelligent, researched and experienced (as opposed to knee-JERK and stereotyped) discussions about race, immigration, religion, etc., WITHOUT resorting to the baiting, card-playing tactics of the loony left.
Good evening, friend! I made cookies today. Had a nice little time out.
We can also use the abuse button to greater effect.
A great big Welcome back to you too. I'm glad you decided to change your mind. I don't like losing good people because there are jerks around. I don't like seeing the jerks win so I'm really glad you decided to not let them run you off.
I have more I'd like to say but my mind is starting to wander a little because of the meds I'm taking so for now I'll just keep my post short and simple.
Glad the rumor of your demise was just that!
I hope you can still run your JD and BC lists!
I won't badmouth FR or anything. My issue is with those miscreants who stated such things, and most importantly, the lack of anyone calling out those who said those things. This convinced me that there was tacit approval for those statements.
So, I left. No cheesy opus, just let a few FReepers I respect know through private mail and I split.
The myriad examples of blatant racism by some posters there I was able to wipe away. But not those on that bridge thread. That was it. Enough was enough.
This was his explanation from another board.
Well dangit. I still got more rocks.
OK Thanks for the explanation. I didn't know what I personally had done. I understand, now. But I did see alot of people calling people out. My position was that I understood the fear of this officer but he should have let at least the women and kids and old people and such cross over. I didn't defend the looters. I don't think anybody would. I told somebody I consider a friend once that I was never going to get on another one of these Katrina threads and I did. I'm sad for FR because I saw the bad side of the people in FR, too. Especially through the Terri threads and antiChristain threads and now this. But anyway thank you for having the courtesy to answer me.
only if they are half-baked. A fully cooked Opus has a dry, fluffy texture with a hard bitter crust.
And that's just ONE way to cook a penguin.
Thanks for telling me. I don't come here as often so I am often behind in the news!
So glad to see that you are back and posting on FR...I do not post very much, but you and I had some very good and informative discussions on a thread about Terry Shiavo...that is when I got to know a little bit about you, and appreciated your intellect and compassion in those posts...even tho I dont really post very much on FR, I always read the threads, and I always make it a point of reading your posts...when I thought I would no longer have your posts to read, it was a bummer...a bummer to see you so 'tired', as you put it, a bummer to see the racists spouting and driving you off...glad that you did not allow them to have their way and silence your voice.....I am so glad you are back..
