It loooks like the Penguins have put together a strong team, in large part thanks to the lockout. I'm anxious for the season to start, and I have preseason tickets to the Pens vs. Caps in Hershey, PA on September 25.
LETS GO PENS!

I remember the Stanley Cup.
That was a trophy for winning a sport they used to play long ago called hockey...right?

While I'm glad that fans in Pittsburgh are excited about hockey again, they'll have to play way over their heads to be as good as Philly.

I've been looking for a good reason to stop being a St. Louis Blues fan now that I live in PA. Maybe now's the time to switch!

I have been following the Pens since their first games with Hank Bassen in goal. Remember Andy Bathgate? How about Mike Briere, our first superstar, who gave us hope, only to be killed in a car crash after his first season? The team lurched from financial crisis to financial crisis. It has usually been a long season (except for the two Cups in the '90's). Now I'm in Cleveland, without major league hockey, but watching the Pens from afar, and I must say that things look good!

Before all you Pittsburgh fans get all excited over this upcoming season, you might want to make note of a few things:
1. With his history of health problems, Mario Lemieux will be lucky to play more than 40 games this season.
2. Sidney Crosby may become a star someday, but I think he may be the most overrated NHL prospect in years. He's been described as the next Gretzky/Lemieux/etc., but his junior record doesn't give that indication at all.
3. Most of the players listed in this article are aging NHL stars who are long past their primes.

"PENGUINS BUILDING STANLEY CUP CONTENDER"
That`s what every team says before the season. They are just trying to put warm bodies in the seats to get off to a good start.
Right now its all just hype , hype , hype..........and hope it works out. Whats on paper doesn`t always equal success.
Mets fans know all about this.
