PENGUINS BUILDING STANLEY CUP CONTENDER by Joe Sager pittsburghpenguins.com 09/09/2005
Are you ready for some hockey?
The Pittsburgh Penguins hit the ice Wednesday in the most-anticipated training camp in recent memory. Following a 310-day work stoppage that wiped out the 2003-04 season, the NHL and the Penguins are back and better than ever.
Everywhere we go, its very exciting. People cant wait for the season to start, said Penguins captain Mario Lemieux. Its a very exciting time for Pittsburgh and the fans.
The mere fact that hockey is back is enough to fire up Penguins fans. Add in an unprecedented star-studded free-agent bounty that brought Mark Recchi, Sergei Gonchar, Ziggy Palffy, John LeClair, Ryan VandenBussche, Steve Poapst, Andre Roy and Lyle Odelein to Pittsburgh as well as a trade for goalie Jocelyn Thibault and the selection of super prospect Sidney Crosby in the NHL Entry Draft, and Pittsburgh is the place to be in the hockey world again.
Its very exciting for the organization to be able to bring in all these great players and put a great team on the ice so we have a chance to compete, Lemieux said. Its great for the city and our fans.

What the heck is this photo on the sjsharks page though? Get that thumbs-up down there Sharkie! *sigh*
WTF is that about? Algore would not know what a puck is if it hit him between the eyes, though he might gain a couple of IQ points if it did.
Oh that's scary.
Did it annoy anyone else that we finally had a presidential candidate who liked hockey and it was that moron Kerry?
It annoyed me big time, especially after watching some game on FoxNews which was a fundraiser for him, and in which they had greats like Neely and Bourque playing. On top of that, they left the doofus score a couple of gimme goals. I remember thinking that I am a poor skater and still I would have looked as graceful as Gretzky compared to Lurch's skating style.
Yeah I remember that, too. {shaking my head in disgust}
I hope so too. I dunno, is that you with Sharkie?
There's an official Linux hockey team? ;)
Looks like Al Gore.
Right you are. They'd have to play WAY over their heads to reach the lofty heights of the PHILADELPHIA FLYERS!!
Come to think of it, the Pens could only get better, cause they sure as hell couldn't get any worse.
Now......if they only had a decent arena to play in...........
GO F L Y E R S !!!
I agree!!
LET'S GO FLYERS!!!
There were 2 very tragic hockey losses due to traffic accidents.
Briere was one, and the other was Pelle Lindbergh of the FLYERS.
So sad to lose such obviously great talents at such a young age...........
I agree.
Remember when they all called Eric Lindros "The Next One"?? He sure turned out to be a dud, not to mention a mama's boy.......
LET'S GO FLYERS!!!

It sure will be great to see hockey again!!
I've already requested October 5th off from work so I can watch the season opener at The Wachovia Center, Flyers vs. Rangers.
I can't wait!!
Boy, talk about your cupcake home opener (sorry Rangers fans).
It's fun to hate the Flyers. At least for me.

That`s what every team says before the season. They are just trying to put warm bodies in the seats to get off to a good start.
Right now its all just hype , hype , hype..........and hope it works out. Whats on paper doesn`t always equal success.
Mets fans know all about this.
Sorry, I don't go back that far. But I love the Pens and I like that they are the underdogs in PA.
